Two pics took tpday after a deep treatment and protein.. Looks like this all the time.. I use yes to cukes shampoo, giovanni smooth as silk conditioner for cowash, matrix conditioning balm for rinse out, fsg or aussie instant freeze gel and shea moisture milk from midshaft to ends. I live in high dews, have fine to medium hair, and im highly porous

You might want to try rotating in a lighter conditioner. My fine hair could never tolerate Conditioning Balm every time I washed. There's nothing that stands out as problematic with you products, but you also don't really explain your techniques or what you're trying to improve.

Ok, just saw your other thread. I suspect you're using products that are too heavy for your hair. A few suggestions:
Rather than using a sulfate shampoo, increase the frequency of low-poos vs co-washes. There are plenty of people who follow CG who just cannot co-wash. If you still want to do an occasional sulfate wash, there are some gentle sulfate shampoos out there. I know the Tresemme Naturals shampoos are low sulfate, and I absolutely adore CHS Treatment Shampoo.
Rather than using the Giovanni Smooth as Silk as a co-wash, try it as your rinse out instead. If you still want to co-wash, you might be better off with a lighter conditioner- my personal favorites are VO5 Vanilla Mint Tea and Kiwi Lime. Conditioning Balm is a great conditioner, but unless your hair is severely damaged or dry, you might get weighed down if you use it too often.
Ditch the Shea Mousture for now. There are lots of people who love these products, but there are also plenty of people who found them way too heavy, myself included. Try just using some conditioner as a leave-in and applying gel. Sometimes simpler really is better, especially as you're still learning about what works for your hair.

I tried giovanni for rinse out, byt it wasnt doing the job, my hair would be very tangled and rough it didnt moisturize the length.. I have found the balm to be to heavy, but i cant seem to find a confitioner that is moisturizing enough without weighing it down, or one that doesnt leave it dry and tangly. Ive tried tresenme naturals, vo5, and suave, cowashing just doesnt work for me, but i thought giovanni was and was wrong.. If i use just gel, my hair soaks it up and feels dry as soon as i put it on.. Ive used fsg, aussie instant freeze, lalsg, kccc, and ecostyler with no luck, it leaves my hair dry or stringy. As for technique, thats also an issue. I twist, to get good curls, but when it dries, the top layers by my bottom ears fly out and cant be tamed, and my roots stick to my head. I tried clipping and havent mastered it. Upside down doesnt work bc when i turn upright, all the peices are flying outwards.. I tease after it dries bc i cant seem to get volume in the roots.. This whole cg thing is so hard bc i dont have someone here to show me how to do it, and my hair isnt working with suggestions ive had before..

I've seen a few people say that Garnier Fructis Hydra Recharge conditioner is CG friendly. That might be a lighter alternative to the Conditioning Balm.
I know how overwhelming it can all be when you're getting started. We've all been there. The trick with technique is being gentle, no matter how you style. You might want to try a bit less manipulation and see if that helps at all. Apply all of your products to wet hair and gently scrunch. If your hair is thick, you might need to apply products in sections, to make sure you're not missing clumps of hair. Plop, then let hair down and try not to touch it as it dries.

My hair is extremely stiff/rough. Am i getting to much protein? Or is it aussie instant freeze gel? Im starting to think my hair dislikes protein.. If it does, what kind of conditioner should i look for for fine, porous hair?

Try garnier fructis strength & length conditioner. It's cg friendly.

The latest re-formulation of Length and Strength contains amodimethicone, so it is no longer CG-friendly.
Hydra-Recharge is also protein free (I know this because that's what prevented me from trying it).
I'm not familiar with ingredients in the Yes to products, so I can't comment on your low-poo. Shea Moisture contains protein and check the Aussie gel as well for hydrolyzed wheat protein.
Because your hair is fine and porous, it's very unusual for it to be protein sensitive, so you might want to check your products for aloe vera or glycerin, which can cause similar issues for some curlies.

I agree with some of the suggestions above.

I'd try low-pooing regularly instead of cowashing. Giovanni SaS is way too thick to cowash with unless you're watering it down by A LOT... usually people use very cheapo conditioners like Suave, V05 etc. Anyway I think you should go the low-poo route, stick with the Cukes since you have it.

I also agree about the the Matrix Conditioning Balm... way too heavy and humectant rich... I could never use this regularly on my fine hair. I'd only use it to DT, but I've found I haven't even needed at DT all summer. Hair that is on the fine side may not need as much moisture/conditioning as coarse hair, there's no formula... you have to play around and see how you best achieve your moisture-protein balance.

Giovanni SaS is a pretty good hit of protein so do keep that in mind. That being said I do give my hair good hits of protein from my RO (currently using SSI Okra Reconstructor). If I were to leave my hair naked, it might feel a little dry, at least the first day. But, if I style with FSG (which on me is moisturizing)... then it's not dry at all. Same goes for if I put in an LI.... one that can have protein but is a tad more moisturizing than my RO. I can even add my protein-heavy RO as my LI if I layer FSG on top. Basically it's the same concept that some do by following a PT with a DT... protein first, then moisture.

I also agree with shelving the SM for now. I think your hair is over-smothered with products that are too heavy for it right now. Lighten up in terms of products, amounts of layers and amount of product... see where if there is improvement.

If i wash my hair daily with the giovanni as rinseout, will i get too much protein from it? And okay, i think im going to make more fsg today (i did like plain better than with additives). Do u know of any leave ins without glycerin (besides alba) that are good to use instead of shea moisture? And any conditioners with no protein? Also, does aussie instant freeze have anything that would dry my hair out if i put it on over fsg?

Shea Moisture Curl and Style milk built up on my hair seriously. Although initially I really liked the product, it made it feel seriously dry after a week or two of use. It has shea butter which some hair types can't tolerate.

Yes it is possible, whether it will happen I don't know. No one can tell you for sure how your hair will react. It's not a bad idea to have a low-protein or no-protein rinse out in the mix until you figure it out.

Have you tried without a leave-in? Do you absolutely need a hardhold gel on top? I'm just wondering if your hair is being weighed down.

Since you're using FSG and a hard hold gel on top... you're pretty free to experiment with different leave-ins... look for fatty alcohols, cationic surfactants high up on the list. You don't necessarily need an anti-humectant rich leave-in if your hard hold gel has anti-humectant properties (usually all hard hold gels do). I'd recommend something light... maybe like KCKT, maybe some cheapie conditioners (Tressemme Naturals or Suave Naturals) or SheScentIt Coco & Pomegranate, Curly Kinks Satin Roots, hopefully someone else can chime in. If you want to try CJ try getting the sample pack rather than buying one product as they're kind of expensive and you'll have more to play with a sample.

I don't see anything drying in AIF... but it does have one of those possibly buildup-y polyquats high up on the list. 4, 7 & 10 really build up badly on some people, others can tolerate polyquats no problem... with no rhyme or reason. Whether your hair will be able to handle them or not I don't know, you'll just have to play and see.

Suggestions for a hard hold gel? Im just looking for one because fsg doesnt hold my curl like i wish it would. I was considering ditching AIF, especially after what you told me! Ill check to see where/how much those leaveins are, and thank u for your advice, once again! Your always so helpful
