Default Haircut Choice and Face Shape Dillemna

I have a heart shaped face with high cheekbones and a defined jaw. It seems when the length of my hair is similar it is not flattering. Do you think a shag cut is what I need for my facial shape? I also wonder about length. My hair easily overwhelms my small face. It is so hard to find a good hairstylist for curly hair and many just forget or just don;t know how to create a flattering style.

Any ideas and NYC haircutter recommendations?

I have a heart shaped face as well. I've been doing some online research. So far have found that we shouldn't have anything too short or severe, most layers should start at or around the jaw, and waves/curls are our best option.

That's all I've got.
