Am I the only one who thinks curls or waves can look too moisturized? I mean I know we want our hair to look lush but I saw a woman the other day with curly blonde hair and it just looked too moisturized. I mean to the point where it looked like dolls hair cuz it was so glossy looking. I know a lot of ppl do no poo but I couldn't help but think she could afford to use some. Her hair just sat there. Idk. Looked so heavy to me. Too much of a good thing
Medium texture, normal porosity, normal elasticity
I'm thinking if it looked glossy and still it had a lot of silicone on it. Over conditioned hair is usually not glossy. And is lank.

Eh. My overconditioned hair was actually very shiny.

This is my personal preference but I don't really like the look when wavies go too much to look curly... as in their waves are super defined, way too much conditioner/gel/product. 3s and 4s have volume. 2s generally lack it (the curls fall vertically; little to no root curl). So when the waves are smothered in conditioner and gel, the volume is even less... I don't like the look personally. I think wavies need to find a balance between definition/frizz control and natural volume. I actually think a little bit of frizz and a little less definition and more volume looks better.
curlypearl and Mirtika like this.
2BC/f/II. fine - low/normal porosity - medium density - normal elasticity.

Currently using:
Cowash: Cure Care diluted with water 1:1
RO: Cure Care, V05 Kiwi Lime
Styler: UFD CM (old formula), FSG + CNPF
PT: IAgirl's gelatine

Experimenting with: CeraVe Foaming as low-poo, gelatin gel

light moisture, hydrolized protein, jelly stylers
guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, sulfates
Neutral on cones.

I get this look if I use gel for some reason. It's one of the reasons I have quit using it as I like my hair to look more natural and soft.

It just looked too fake to me. Her hair just hung there. I mean everyone's hair just hangs lol but hers looked very weighed down and covered in products. I guess I just prefer the more natural look. I love seeing "natural" girls who's hair is curly and kinky and just all over the place because to me natural beauty is so much better than fake beauty. I'll take that over straightened, flat, glossy hair any day. And don't get me wrong, I know natural girls put a lot of work into maintaining their hair! But it seems to me that they work with their elements rather than just fighting or outright hiding them.

Like maybe the curls were made with a curling iron and sprayed? Or it could've been a gel cast?

I'm having a hard time imagining it just because I've never seen that look lol. When I think of curly doll hair I think of soft Shirley Temple style curls.

I know that wasn't your point lol, but I don't think I've ever witnessed over-conditioned or too shiny curly hair .

I also am learning to appreciate the more "wild" natural look instead of trying to get super shiny and controlled curls which just doesn't work for my hair type I guess.
I really dislike the producty look, which it sounds like that woman had. Just TOO MUCH stuff, so hair has that kinda wet/too shiny/hanging look. But some folks like that look. Since 2009 when I found this forum, I've seen pics posted of hair that the wearer thought was their best look, and to me, it looked over-producted. Tastes vary.

I still sometimes use too much stuff and get that look I don't like--overdone with products. Happens. Usually, I find it's using a lot of gel. Gel that makes for that overdone look on me, if I'm not careful. I'd rather have some frizz or droopier curls than have super-product-woman look.

Gels last me forever, since I use so little. I have my bottle of fave gel I got in 2010, and it's still got some in there. I've had to toss some that went bad before I finished the jar.

But, being human, some days I squirt or grab too much product, and am not judicious. I don't really get the doll's curl look. But I do get that "Oh, she has lots of stuff in her hair, doesn't she?" look, which usually eases by the next day. I remember when I tried the Rock Hard Gelee, and hated my first day hair (that producty look), but it was fine the second day....

When I'm overconditioned, I get floofy-soft and limp and dull hair.
Natural since Nov 2009--change in diet and hair care regimen changed hair profile:
~~Used to be very fine/high-porosity/low elasticity/mostly 3b
~~Now, medium/med porosity/good elasticity/mostly 3a
Fave lines: Curl Junkie, Spiral Solutions, AG Curl, Abba Pure

You're right mirtika. I think she had an abundance of product in her hair >_<
Medium texture, normal porosity, normal elasticity
I believe that she used serum or some kind of product quite heavily that's why her hair were too glossy.
