I've used the AG Mousse-Gel as my hold product. I didn't get the same hold as straight gel, but did get more than most mousses. It depends on how much hold you need. I don't need a huge amount, so it worked well for me.

You don't have to use gel in addition to the A|G Mousse Gel, that's just what I do. FWIW, I target my roots with the mousse, then apply gel to the length, so I'm not applying one over the other.

I don't use gel with it either. I typically use it over leave in and flax seed gel, curl keeper or AG recoil.

You use a lot of stylerts though. I like to keep my routine simple. Plus my low porosity hair doesn't really like layering.
