Oh dear god someone help me
I think it may be an HG. I've only used it once, so I can't rule out horrible build up yet or eventual dryness.
What I like about mousse is that is that I have more volume from the get go, so there is no need to scrunch or fluff or separate. Even though I'm 3c I have fine hair, so the wet dog effect can be strong. I don't like tons of volume and I don't like those types of mousse that make your hair piece-y or kill clumps. What I hate about mousse it that in generally has no lasting styling effect, it's too light. I'm better off using more leave-in. Mousse creams are the worse because they usually have oils, waxes, etc in them and it's the wrong kind of heavy. That type of think makes my hair strands repel one another, so all I get it fluff.
I've had a lot of success with my current gel. Since it's a cheap buy I still have it as a backup if I ever need to save money. My issue with gel is that you have to be more careful in the application. I have to be cautious of how much leave-in I'm using, it can create those white balls. I have to smooth it in well. I have to rake a bit to separate my crown. I can't over do it. It takes forever to dry. You get the picture. Even with the best gel for me, it still isn't perfect. Us PJs and perfection.
The first spray of this product was interesting. Like a lot of mousses, the first pump wasn't really foam-y, so I got a feel of what the liquid inside the can was like and it was more viscous...like CIAB or something.
Anywho I used this just like I would a gel. I worked it through my hair section by section. I didn't really have to rake it at all I just smoothed it and it encouraged clumps very well and it cooperated with my leave-in. I deliberately used a ton of my CJ Smoothing Lotion to test it out.
When I was done with it my hair looked more like gel does after it's been in for about 3 hours. Marked improvement. It was separated and lifted while still being defined. My hair feel soft and bouncy. It got to that almost dry stage a lot quicker (you know where the inside is still damp, but it looks dry). It doesn't feel dry. No crunch or roughness, sometime gels drys a bit rough at my top part. I don't know why.
If this awesome-ness continues I will re-purchase. Congratulations Jessie, you have another expensive HG. Wooo-nooo....
