Looking for a product rec for hold.

I posted in the all-natural section but didn't get any responses. Hopeing there will be more traffic here. Ideally I want a CG friendly product for hold that is all-natural. I would prefer it have an EWG rating of 3 or less and not tested on animals. Thanks!

Natural products tend to be based on humectants and film formers, they don't tend to be hard hold products, that is copolymers. You'd likely be best making your own flaxseed or okra gel and adding hold with xanthan gum or agave nectar. Sweet Curls Elixirs on Etsy make it if you don't want to.

Thank you. I will look in to that. Where can I find good recipes? And the ingredients, are they hard to find?

There are recipes in the recipes section of the naturallycurly.com curl talk boards.

My local grocery store has flaxseeds in the bulk foods section. You could also look in a natural or organic food section. Health foods stores also carry them. Just keep in mind that you want whole seeds, not ground ones.

Okra is in the produce section.

You can also use frozen okra - in the frozen vegetable section but also sometimes in the "ethnic" frozen foods section.
You can find xanthan gum and preservatives such as potassium sorbate at sites like Premium ingredients at less than premium prices... Lotioncrafter
As many others have found -both okra and flax seed gel will spoil after a few days +. You can keep it in the refrigerator but I've found I'm less likely to use it if I have to run to the fridge to get it before I shower. So you may want to seriously consider using preservative. I still make & freeze small batches.
Great stuff!
