Default Haircutting technique question

Has anyone either had their hair cut like in this video or cut their own hair like this? I found the link on a girl's blog, and she said cutting her hair like this helped her to not have a shelf in back. My hair is normally fine when I cut it like I usually do, which is a wet cut and not curl by curl. But, now that it's getting a little longer, I find that I have a shelf in the back. I'm thinking this way of cutting will blend my middle and bottom layers better. The layers are supposed to angle down towards the back instead of going straight back. It also seems a little less scary than cutting every single curl by itself.

Anyone had this done and like it? Thoughts?
