What is my hair trying to tell me?

I get very bad knots. And I mean really bad. TN does a pretty good job getting them out, but the best detangler is KCKT; however, I can't get it right now.

I have been noticing my knots are really bad near the roots. Why is that? What is my hair trying to tell me?

For my night routine, I used to pineapple, but I noticed when I did, my nape hairs would get all these ridicoulous mini knots. Then I tried pineappling with a scarf on top. That was ok for a bit, but then I didn't like the way my hair looked out of the pineapple. I then bought a bonnet and I hate it. It would bend my curls. Now I just wrap a silk scarf around my hair at night, but I still get really bad knots. I am just trying to be as proactive as possible in preventing really bad knots.

By the way, when I say silk scarf, no it's not pure true silk.

Maybe you have build up from protein or shea butter or a wax? Or maybe you need to wash more often so the tangles don't get as bad? Do you have a silk or satin pillowcase as well as the scarf?
