Default How long do you plop for?

I love love love plopping! It really shortens drying time and soaks up all the moisture. It may look funny lol but my husband is used to it now. I usually plop for 20-25 minutes after styling. How long do you guys plop for? 😊 I have tried overnight once but it was too much shrinkage! I tried again recently but lasted a couple minutes because it was so darn uncomfortable! So far 20 minutes or a little more seems to be the magic number before air drying!

I was just doing some research on plopping. I've plopped a few times for 5-10 mins each and actually really like it now! it used to not work for me.. don't know if it's the cut or what.

I have a question to add on - does anybody dry plop overnight? I've been thinking about trying this and wondered the results.

I once plopped overnight (3a curls),but the result was kinda frustrating ...My hair was pretty frizzy ,without any curl definition ....and I had to wash my hair again.

Hmm does increasing the time help with curl definition and frizz?

So for me ,my curl definition is a lot better when I plop for an hour but I never plop any longer ... The time how long I plop depends on how wet my hair is after showering and scrunching but I don't think that increasing the plopping time helps to reduce frizz !
But that's just my opinion ..

You all seem to be having success with plopping through trial and error for optimum time. Which is brilliant as we all want to reduce drying time! I don't have much luck with it unfortunately but then my hair is short!

I don't plop much now but I did plop overnight a bunch and had mixed results. The days that I got the best results from my overnight plopping were when I did the following:
  1. Style hair wet if not soaking wet. The worst thing thst can happen is that your hair dries before it can unplop.
  2. Use a gel, I get more frizz from overnight plopping when I skip the gel.
  3. Do not wait too long after you wake up to unplop, too much shrinkage can occur. I usually do not plop for more than 6-7 hours.
  4. When plopping do not let any of your hair get into the twisted sausage sides. This results in curls that looked all kinds of messed up. Not a good look.
  5. Use a thin, long-sleeved, cotton, t-shirt. If the plopping fabric is too thick, your hair will get too dry and too much shrinkage and other bad thing can happen.

Hope this helps.

If I'm going to be diffusing after, then only about 10 minutes. Otherwise I get frizz. But usually I wash in the evening, plop for 2-3 hours (until bedtime), and then sleep in a silk cap overnight. In the morning I just shake and go. There's a lot of shrinkage, but since my curls are looser they will lengthen as the day goes on.

I'm interested to try plopping as my hair takes an age to dry! So am I right in thinking you apply all styling products incl. gel as normal, then plop using a t-shirt for a couple of hours (or however long you think is necessary and that's it?

Has anyone experienced frizz with this method? That's my biggest concern! I'm worried the t-shirt will absorb my styling products and lave my hair a frizzy mess ... am I being ridiculous lol?

30 minutes is the magic number for me. I look at the clock and time it exactly. BotticelliBrit, I don't get frizz unless I've plopped too long and my hair is not as wet as it should be when I take the shirt off. I also scrunch with wet hands when I undo the plop.

Its usually 15 or 20 for me. Usually depends on product. I can't do overnight though. I always get frizz. Maybe there is a science to it haha.
I haven't tried it with my shorter hair but I would imagine curls would get flat against my head cause of short layers and such.

Yes boticellibrit and I suggest starting with 15 minutes and working your way up in time to see what time works best.

I haven't experienced frizz with it and if I do it's very minimal. It can't hurt to try 😊 if your worried you should make sure to do it when you are just staying home for the day. I hope it works for you ☺️

@BotticelliBrit I have only gotten frizz from plopping when I did not use a gel product and even then I plopped for a while. But when I use a gel (medium to hard hold), and my hair was still wet when I plopped, no frizz. Any frizz I would get would not be from plopping but from touching my hair too much as it dried. Also t-shirt choice matters. Thicker t-shirts mean more drying and if I know that I am going to plop for a while (like overnight) then I use a thinner t-shirt. My favourite t-shirt to plop overnight with is this cheap thin one from Old Navy that was probably meant to be layered.

Can someone explain to me what plopping is? I mean I get the idea of it, I'm just not sure how to exactly do it. My hair fully dries in about an hour and a half, so I don't know if I should do it or not, or if I should just do it for a short time period
