How do I do 2nd day hair tomorrow?

New to trying to style my hair curly (well, it was curly years ago, went away, and now it is back)...How do I do second day hair? I used the Deva spray gel today and that can be used for 2nd day hair. Do I just put it on my hair? Or do I spray my hair with water first and then the spray gel?
Especially with the Deva products, I would spray with water first. They can tend to be very sticky and gunky when applied to dry hair. A little water is an excellent refresher too.

I sprayed some water on it this morning then used the spray gel which people say is great for 2nd day hair. But I had to pull my hair up in sort of a half pony tail because the top layer of my hair was frizzy and weird but my under layers look great. I need my top layers to match my under layer. It looked like that last night a bit too though where my top layers didn't look as nice as my under layers. I slept on a silk pillowcase but that top layer of hair was still blah.
Do you use any other Deva products, or just the gel? I found the polyquats in their products to give me frizz (the spray gel doesn't have any though). You can put a frizz serum or oil on you hair once it's fully dry to help it out. Or you may find you need to completely saturate your head on the 2nd day.

Some people have great success with the pineapple method at night, or sleeping on a silk or satin pillow case, if you haven't tried those options.

As sixelamy said - pineappling is great for second day hair. I always do that with great results. I don't even re-wet; I just take out my pineapple, shake my hair about and apply some leave-in if needed.

I can try the pineapple method but my hair isn't that long right now. I'm going to grow it out though. I just got a ouidad cut and it is shorter than I would have liked due to some damaged ends. I would also be afraid that the ponytail holder would crease my curls. What type of ponytail holder is best to use?

I don't have any other deva products yet. I just started trying to style my hair curly (see my signature for my hair story).

Sixelamy - what do you mean by saturating my hair the next day? Do you mean on the 2nd day I would need to saturate it with water? Or with product?

I feel like my top layer of curls look greasy and dirty on the 2nd day from frizz and adding more product. The under layer of my curls look better though.

2a/b hair....I think??

Doing my hair curly is all new to me after blow drying and straightening for years.

Currently Using:
- Activator: JC Rockin Ringlets
- Hold: Spiralicious
Testing Deva AngelCare after getting my hair cut.

You can use an invisibobble (I got a pack of three from Amazon for a couple of pound), but a normal hair tie (without a metal bit, of course) should do. It won't crease your hair because you're not tying it. You're just putting it in your hair loose, not wrapping it tightly a bunch of times

You don't have to add product on second day hair. You can just put a bit of water in your hair, or nothing at all. I feel like the more stuff I put in my hair on the second day, the worse it looks. So I usually either do nothing, or I put some water on my hands and scrunch it into my hair. That gets my hair a bit damp, especially toward the bottom, and it reactivates my product. Also, when I do add product I have more luck adding a little conditioner than I do with hold products.

I'm still having no luck. I have a silk polliwcase and I wore my hair in a bonnet last night. I tried to pineapple it but my scrunchy was too big so it just fell out of the pineapple and stayed in the sleep cap. When I took the bonnet off this morning it looked horrible and definitely laid funny since it had been up all night in the sleep cap. I tried adding water. And tried adding a light spray (Loreal Pumping Curls), which I used recently before starting Deva methods and which I used all the time for 2nd day hair years ago when I had curly curly hair (so wish I had that hair back - it was so easy!)

I'm going to have to hop in the shower and start all over. And I only just showered and did my hair last night at 5:00pm. Was really hoping to be able to do 2nd day hair today. But it's really not looking good.

In the morning I use KC Styling Spritz, sprayed on my hands and smoothed over any troublesome spots.

I have been CG for almost a year, and it's only in the last month or so where I am getting consistent results with second and third day hair. I had many a times, like you, where I did my hair the night before and ended up doing it again in the morning (and I don't like showers, lol). I started getting up 15 minutes earlier in case I needed to start over. I think for me now, I've finally got the moisture balance figured out for my hair needs, which along with the sleep cap and KCSS is allowing me to achieve third day hair.

Anyway, hugs to you
It took me a lot of trying before I was able to get second day hair, and longer still before I could consistently get good second day hair.

I would suggest just using the silk pillowcase. I just sweep my hair up toward the head of the bed as I lie down (unless it's moist, in which case I scrunch it), and forget about it.

Most days I have to do a little work on my hair after I get up, but it's generally not more than five minutes. I keep a spray bottle of mostly water, with a little conditioner (DevaCurl B'Leave In is my favourite for this, partially because it mixes well with water), and a small amount of gel. I spray this on my hands, not my hair (which is a sure recipe for frizz for me), sandwich my hair between my hands, and run them quickly down to the end, usually two to three times per section, then redampen my hands and move the the next section. After that I root dampen by threading my damp fingers in through my hair and lightly scrubbing my roots, then scrunch my hair and walk away from the mirror. (I can't begin to tell you how important that part is.) It takes about five minutes to dry while I do something else, like brushing my teeth and starting my tea, and I can get a good sense of how well it's responding by then.

The thing to remember, or at least the thing that I remembered that helped me was that even if I didn't get second day hair, I was making progress to that goal, and I hadn't really lost anything. If it delayed my hopping into the shower by five minutes, it wasn't a biggie. And I'd try again the next day. Five minutes wasn't too much to pay daily until it worked.
Peace,
Morgan
