Low dew point CRAZINESS!

Hello! I am having one heck of a time with my hair since the weather changed. I knew I'd have to make changes, but I had no idea that my hair would completely revolt! I have lots of questions but the main one is...

How can my ever-so-perfect Pumpkin Seed conditioner make my hair feel disgusting? Too much, too little.. doesn't matter. My hair feels totally gross. When only a month ago my hair felt and looked awesome.

Did you do anything new and different one month ago? Possibly go to the hairdresser and let him/her use their "safe" products?
Peace,

I feel your pain! I have changed just about everything in my routine since summer ended. I feel like my hair gets weighed down more easily now. I low poo instead of cowashing. I changed to a lighter conditioner. I changed to a lighter gel. I added protein to my routine. It's starting to look like hair again! I haven't used what you are using but I would check ingredients. Is there glycerin in your products? Maybe you need to clarify?
I'm going to go ahead and say 3a
fine/medium texture and a bit porous-I color
Spring routine: Renpure luxurious argan oil shampoo/Loreal Advanced Care Color conditioner , HETT gel
Microfiber towel/diffuse
Trying KKCC
Just a thought, but if you're using the pumpkin seed conditioner as a LI, it might be the coconut oil. Virgin coconut oil is a saturated fat, so it's solid at room temperature. Because of that, it might be leaving you hair feeling coated in the lower temperatures now. If you really like it, it might be worth diffusing your hair so the coconut oil absorbs better.

I use a LI conditioner during the summer that has a good amount of coconut oil in it, but it leaves my hair feeling producty /coated when the dews drop. I switch to one with argan oil in it instead for wintertime.

Morgan has a point too. If you've been to the salon, the stylist may have thought their stuff was ok, but it may have had a 'cone that got missed. If you haven't clarified in a while, you might try that, then pt /dt, whichever of those typically makes your hair feel better.

My hairdresser uses my products - I did actually do a sulfate wash just to be sure I didnt have some kind of build up - maybe 2-3 weeks ago. I didnt scrub my scalp with it - way too drying for me, but I washed my hair well. I low poo - and have tried a couple different shampoo.

I am so confused with ingredients. I'll check for glycerin. The Coconut oil thing makes sense. I did notice that my conditiner looked a bit "chunky" - that has to be what is going on there. I'll warm it up before I use it - and diffuse. Maybe that will do the trick!

Thanks!

My DBPS condish wasn't chunky.. it was the CJ Daily Fix. Weird.

Most recently I cowashed with CJDF, conditioned/detangled with CJ Repair Me, used KC Satin Roots as a leave in. No gel or anything else. I plopped and diffused. The curls were nice but a bit "puffy" and a titch frizzier than I'd like.. It felt really nice. It was definitely the best hair day in over a month so I'm on the right track. No gel or other product meant no hold - so I pulled the top hair back with a barrette. It looked nice, but sometimes I wonder if that look is too juvenile or dated. My hair line is really high, so I prefer not to pull it back if I don't have to.

Day 2 hair was ok - I refreshed with watered down Spiral Spritz and diffused again. I was able to wear it all down with a little spray along my part line. Today was day 3! - pulled back with a low barrette at the nape of my neck - had to use dry shampoo on my roots but this day 3 hair is better than the day 2 hair I was having.

There is still room for improvement - any suggestions on what to try in the morning? I've got a good variety or products. I'm a bit of a PJ!

lopoo 1x per week with - Organix Tea Tree Mint Shampoo
Conditioners: Sauve Naturals Tropical Coconut
Gel: LA Looks Sports Gel
Curl Refresher - water. Still looking for something
PT: IAGirl's Protein Treatment
may be the protein? It's low in the ingredients but it is there and most curls need less protein in low dews.

I cut back to using the darcy pumpkin seed conditioner to 1x per week and it's behaving much better.
3B curls
Medium texture
Normal elasticity
High porosity
I think it might help to try a different conditioner, one without coconut oil, such as Trader Joe's Peppermint Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner/Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat Conditioner, Dessert Essence Jojoba Body Boosting Conditioner, or Nature's Gate Organics Conditioner Lavender and Aloe (although the latter two contain glycerin, I haven't had problems with them in low dews, yet anyway).
Peace,
Morgan

I agree with Geek_Chic. When you told me you were having problems with it, the coconut oil came to mind, but I didn't want to sound like a psycho lol. It could be the coconut oil was solidifying a bit, as it becomes solid at 76 degrees.

I'm finding sealing my hair with a butter (I'm using SM SMoothie) and then KCC on top, it's working wonders for me! You could also be having an issue with the glycerin in the Satin Roots? My hair LOVES glycerin, but not so much right now. I took that out and it's doing much better.

Worst hair day in the low dew point weather was my old routine - as in the siggy. It makes sense that the cold coconut oil could be a problem. Best hair day was in the pics. Co Wash with Daily Fix (it did leave my scalp itchy for a short while), Repair Me as a rinse out, Satin Roots as the leave in.

I washed today with SM Coconut &Hibiscus, Co-washed with Daily Fix, Repair Me as a rinse out (left a bit more in this time), and then used CJ something Leave In and a small amount of LAL gel. I diffused a bit, but not as much as I wanted to. I was running late. Hair and scalp feel nice - curls are longer and less puffy than they were in these pics, but overall a good hair day.

I'm crossing my fingers for a good day 2 and 3! Good for me has more to do with how clean my scalp and roots look/feel versus the shape of my curls.
