Btw here I am right now with a coconut honey treatment in my hai again.

I mixed honey with water first for an hour and then added about two table spoons of coconut milk. I'm mainly trying to start to lighten my hair again as salon treatments is out of the question right now.

@mustangbunny Thank you! That makes me very happy you have no idea. I been having aome bittersweet feeling towards it at the moment. This length can get annoying so its up. But it is fun having short hair on other days. It takes ages to dry even short lol. Pros and cons

And I always had long hair with layers etc. And going this short was amazing. But I can't wait to grow it long and all on length. What do you think about that? Just trying to get some insight

Sometimes I get carried away and manipulate him too much. He tells me he's fine on his own but I never listen. I wash him less now and all in all we're happy.

Curl Type: 4b/4c I'm relaxed.
Thickness: Really thick. Always get compliments. lol
Porosity: Idk
Current Length: It's cropped short to my neck only in the back. Longer on the sides.
The Length I aim for: at least BSL
Rules I commit to:
1.Make sure you take a healthy diet with lots of water. I'm working on a better diet.
2.No or minimal heat styling (at most once a month). I try to avoid heat as much as I can. I dont even blow dry my hair.
3.No excessive hair trimming (at most 3 times per year)
4.No fine-toothed combs or brushes.
5.Low manipulation as much as possible.

I have a satin scarf, bonnet, and pillow case. I need variety lol
Baggying: What is that?
Greenhouse effect: What is that?
I have convinced myself to try castor oil. But it's not JBCO
Hennas: I heard of henna dyes
LOCs: I use water, Olive and Castor Oils, I use Elasta QP reconstructor with olive oil. And I use Yucca and Boabab for my edges. This works but warning if you use something like this, be careful how much you use it gets heavy
I've heard of Mustard Oil for scalp massages. I dont use it myself but I've heard it's great for stimulation.
I'm also using hairfinity. I'm working on my first bottle.
I'm considering protective syling but because the way my hair is cropped, it doesnt lke ponytails or buns.
I use shampoo and I don't Co-wash but I do protein treatments and deep conditioning. I also use baking soda to remove product buildup.
I plan on doing scalp massages and hot oil treatments. idk with what.

I heat up the honey and coconut oil and mix them together then mix in Shea Moisture Raw Retention Masque. Then i sit under the dryer. I wonder if this is lightening my hair without me noticing.

@bringingcurliesback
Thanks so much!!! I love your hair btw!! 😃
Not really an update but I thought I should add... I'll be trying the Inversion Method. Some people seem to get great results from it. It doesn't require much effort so I'm going to give it a shot. Today was my first day of it.
2A/B. Mix of fine, medium, and coarse (mostly medium). Dense. Mix of normal and high porosity.
Dry climate.

UK curly. CG since October 2013.
Aiming for WL curls (eventually)
Well, I've been dipping my toe into the CG pool for a year or so now (by that I mean I've used devacurl no poo, suave conditioner, and tried to cut down on the flatiron). I've decided to go hardcore for 2014 and stop frying my curls into submission. This seems like a good idea, as there's power in numbers!!

The plan:
Make sure you take a healthy diet with lots of water (oreos and cheetoes are healthy, right?)
No or minimal heat styling (at most once a month) (yes, and since my flat iron broke, there's no going back)
No harsh chemical treatments (relaxer overlap, overlapping color treatments or color with perm, etc) (gotcha)
No excessive hair trimming (at most 3 times per year) (I agree)
No fine-toothed combs or brushes (I don't own any, so this is good)
Low manipulation as much as possible (HA! I'll try.)
Those who join the challenge can choose to commit to some or to ALL of the rules as suits them best.

And here are some suggested sub-challenges that we can choose from every 2 months:

Satin or silk scarf or pillowcase for night time (already have the pillow case, too claustrophobic to sleep with anything on my head (or feet--fyi)).
Finger detangling. No popping/tearing hair with combs and brushes (already on it)
Baggying (gonna have to look this up, but will attempt if it looks fun)
Greenhouse effect (looking this one up as well, this is only my second day!)
Inversion (there are so many new terms to learn!)
Castor oil scalp stimulation (can do this one)

Everybody who joins the challenge should state the following: (just answer as many as you can )

Curl type: I'm mostly 2b with a layer of 2c on top and underneath. It's a hot mess.
Strand thickness: fine
Porosity: Mediumish
Current length (including a photo if possible):shoulder length, around 14 inches long in the back
The length I aim for: long enough to donate and still have hair left on my head. I'm really not picky.
The challenge rules that I commit to: (plz pick from the blue list above) (see above)

Other techniques I intend to use for hair growth and retention. For example:
Protective styling: braiding, bunning, etc (I bun quite often, as I am a yoga addict, so I'll keep that up)
No poo/low poo/co-washing (yes, yes, and heck yes. If anyone has any stand out suggestions for a good poo, let me know. I noticed that few folks here like devacurl...)
Regular scalp massage (what with?) (umm....the metal things make me feel like they'll get lost in my hair and never be seen again...)
Vitamins and supplements (plz specify) (I can't remember to take anything every day, so i'm out on this one)
Other techniques (plz specify) (use a microfiber towel or old t-shirt and take the bath towel off my locks)
Techniques and products you will use to keep your hair strong and moisturized. For example:
DC (what with? How often?) (I love the way coconut oil smells, and it's cheap compared to the stuff they have in stores, so it seems like a winner)
PT (what with? How often?) (I've never done a pre-treatment before...does this really help?)
Leave in product- I've got a ton of stuff purchased, but today I used some Carols Daughter Monoi repair stuff. I'm really not that impressed, but it does smell pretty good.... I'm going to use some recoil, maybe some fast food, any suggestions??
I usually wear my hair straight, so I have no idea what gel/mouse/curl cream to use... going to try and pick a CG approved one but that looks easier said that done. I live in the southern US, so now it's cold, snowy, and dry (but tomorrow could be 70 degrees F...who knows).

I'm pumped that y'all created this challenge-- it's a little overwhelming to attempt all these changes alone! Also, all y'alls hair looks so beautiful. I'm looking forward to seeing how everyone's year ends up, and how much we'll all learn from each other.

I'm not allowed to post photos yet according to the rules, so I'll put them up in a few weeks I guess!
2b/2c wavy/whirley hair, usually out of control.
High porosity, fine texture.
Just started this journey to natural curly territory, so I have no "regular" routine yet.
Well, I caved and got another trim before the start of this challenge. I had gotten it cut in Nov and was going to go from there but, all of a sudden there was one hunk sticking way longer than the other side!! Don't know where its been for 2 months but couldn't stand it!!

Anyhow, I have a tattoo on my neck that I have been wanting to show off, soooo got the back cut to show it off. The sides are as long as the back, thinking inverted bob or asymmetrical thing, since I also have a piece in front that doesn't curl no matter what I do.
