2014 One Inch Per Month Challenge

Thank you! It made me rethink my hair accessory collection- my 2 year old niece gave me the idea to borrow her bow and I'm glad I did. Right now it just consists of bobby pins and head bands, lols.
3C/4A, fine texture, low-medium density, and low porosity?
CG since November 2013.

Pre-Poo: Coconut Oil overnight, or a greek yogurt mixture
Shampoo: Curls Cleanser and/or clarifier
Conditioner: trying out different Suave Naturals conditioners and GVP's leave-in conditioner at the moment
Styler: iagirl's super smooth flax curl cream. <3
PT: iagirl's gelatin treatment 3-4 times a month
DT: conditioner or yogurt base with honey and oil if the conditioner has none.
Finally got my layers evened out and my hair how I want it. Now time to grow from here... It's been like a never ending cycle, but at least my hair has stayed just about the same length. Thought this would be a good time to take a new reference pic while it's straight.

I think you got a nice set. We must be on similar trains of thought.

I used the aphogee 2 step protein treatment and did a greek yogurt pre-poo Friday! I also clarified before the treatment bc I had given SM gel souffle another try on second day curls and had residue. To really top off my productivity (or avoidance of grading), I tried a roller set. The treatment smell was a little overwhelming and made my skin itchy where it touched. However, my hair was super duper soft when I was all rinsed! I applied some Suave Naturals everlasting sunshine conditioner and aloe vera gel to each section before rolling. I got a ton of volume and too tight curls- it was close to overwhelming lols, so I did 20 minutes of a silk wrap before my pictures were taken. Since its spring break this week I've left it in 6 french braids with the ends bobby pinned down until I trim my ends in some areas like my crown. It seems to be so fickle!

I am in smart phone hell. I have an LG phone. I took pics of my hair. Found out I needed a cord to sync it to my computer. I bought the cord it still wouldn't work. Called my provider and we spent hours troubleshooting. Found out I need a whatchmacalit card. The card costs about as much as the cord I had to buy. So I will be waiting on it.

I did my hair today.
1. Prepooed with avocado oil - waited a few hours
2. Low pooed with castille soap.
3. Applied honey all over.
4. Put a protein conditioner on my ends only
5. Waited an hour and rinsed. My hair was tangle free with lots of definition except one section in the crown.

Trying my first twist and curl with rods.

6. Applied moisturizer and detangled to be sure. No tangles except for that small section.
7. Applied gel
8. Sealed with avocado oil - twisted and then rolled.

I learned three things.

1. I should pull the end papers all the way until the end of the hair in order to keep it taught and straight. So my right side may be a bit wonky.

2. When rolling my hair I should roll straight until the end paper is all the way on the roller then spiral the rest of the hair.

3. I used gray rods. I may need bigger ones as by the time I rolled close to mid length - the rod/hair was bulky.

4. I probably should have skipped the moisturizer and just used gel as I am noticing white flakes.

I will try it again to see if I get better.

PS having this stuff hanging on my head is annoying.

I know right. I took pics of my family and pics of some stuff I was trying to sell. This is a new phone and it is supposed to do video and all of that. I am wondering why did it take the pics and I can see them in the phone - but I need the card to transfer them? I tried hooking the usb to my MAC and my PC.

Your hair looks fabulous, I love the cut(:

Thanks.

I can't get it to show on either computer. I downloaded the drivers and it looked like it was going to mount once on the PC and it aborted.

I will try to see if I can send an email...

That's so odd, i hope you get things figured out(:
So the left side of my hair turned out better than the right. At least I have length showing.

The right side is tight and I can tell where I rolled the ends crazy.

I don't like the twist out portion at all. Next time I will just roll the hair to the root to compare.

Hi curlfriends,
How is everyone doing with the challenge?
I am doing low manipulation styles like wash and goes, and easy up do's.
I am also on a no heat pass until right before summer. I will straighten once before the summer heat gets too extreme to trim and do a length.
I don't plan to use my flatiron nor hand held blow dryer. I will rollerset and do a silk wrap instead.(:
It will be my first trim in about 8-10 months. I self trim my hair,
Sometimes straight and sometimes curly.
I am continuing with my workouts, and better diet.
I am also keeping up with my DC's,PT's and henna glosses.
I have tried coconut milk DC treatment with only coconut milk no additives and it worked beautifully.

Happy Growing and best wishes :-)

I'm not manipulating my hair at all (I always wear it down and then just pineapple it at night), haven't used any heat (though I have diffused a couple of times for five minutes or so, but it's always on the 'cool' setting, so it's cold air).

I was planning to have a trim in Feb / early March, but I've decided against it. My ends don't look raggedy or split or anything and seem to be in good health, so I'm not going to bother cutting it until April or May, maybe even later.

I'm also really in to healthy eating and have been eating ALL THE VEGGIES haha. I gave up biscuits, chocolate and cake for Lent so that's good. Every day I've been having Special K with skim milk for breakfast, fruit for lunch, and then a dinner loaded with different veggies, since January. So hopefully my hair is enjoying the benefits of all the vitamins and such!

I'm not doing so well.

BUT..

I'm going to be trying the coconut oil treatment for my scalp and prepoo and see if that helps with some of my problems, as well as growing my hair a bit faster. I'll get back to you guys on how it works.

My hair sure loves me this morning!!! I did the coconut oil, plus a different technique, and I got 2nd day hair!!! There were only 3 spots I needed to wet down a bit, but the rest was still awesome! This rarely happens.

Cross your fingers ladies! I made my own flaxseed gel today! I'm a lot excited. Here lately I can't get my ratio of aloe vera gel down and my hair has been coming out stiffish enough that I can't really scrunch out the crunch so I tried something new. I like the slippery feel of the flaxseed gel so far- well sticky yet slippery at the same time.

I'm undecided if I'll try to make iagirl's curl cream (omitting the strong gel and using honey since I have it on hand) or just mix it with my conditioner like I've been doing with my aloe vera gel.

Otherwise things are going good! I've sort of found a routine that allows me to keep curl but show some more of my length by twisting my hair with conditioner in and letting it dry as long as I can before I undo the twists and style.

You're inspiring to branch beyond homemade deep conditioners and experiment with stylers! I'm worried I'll eff it up though haha
