Wow - I thought the average hair growth per month was just a half-inch if that. Mine maybe grows barely that. That's why I can go for a good while between hair cuts. At this time, I'm not looking to grow my hair long. However, when I was growing up, I knew one girl who, at the end of the school year would have just below chin length hair, and by September, her hair would be a full 6 inches longer!
Longest layer now an inch past shoulder blade stretched.

I am late, but I'm attempting to jump in! I have 4b/4c hair 2014 One Inch Per Month Challenge-uploadfromtaptalk1401162881554.jpg and my strands are pretty thick. I have low porosity hair and my current length is neck Length, unstretched. 2014 One Inch Per Month Challenge-uploadfromtaptalk1401162238417.jpgI aim for health but it would be nice to get my hair shoulder length by the end of this year. I plan to commit to these rules:
-I'll drink lots of water. I already drink about 5-6 bottles of 16.9 fl oz. A day so I'll up it to 8 bottles.
FYI the daily recommended intake of water is 8 cups which would be about 64 fl oz daily. I'm already well over that lol
-No heat
-no chemicals
-No excessive hair trimming. I only trim twice a year, I've just trimmed in May so I'll trim again around November.
-No fine-toothed combs or brushes..
-Low manipulation styles.
-Silk scarf everynight and for naps!
-Finger detangle, ONLY
-Henna + Placenta treatments (as needed)
-GHE

Other Techniques
-Protective styling w/o weaves and extensions.
-co-washing, look for a sulfate free shampoo (cantu has one?)
-Biotin 5000mcg daily
-Coconut oil challenge from hairlista.com
-Massage scalp w castor oil weekly (focusing on damaged area )
-I DC bi-weekly.

^_^

I don't know what is going on, but in the last month it seems every time I go shopping in the next town over (Roanoke- where I also work) I get asked either what I use in my hair to get it to look the way it does, or if I finger coiled my hair.

It is flattering that my hair looks nice enough that people want to try to emulate it. I mean I haven't changed my styles- because I very rarely wear anything but a wash and go so I have concluded that it has to be all the lengths I've gone through participating in the challenge to find the best ways to care for my hair that is the difference. So when I think about all the work and research that has gotten me to where I am now, it makes me a little sad that I can only give a tiny piece of information to the ladies who ask. Then I wonder- where do people go to research hair if they aren't here or somewhere like Curly Nikki? I know I was still pretty clueless despite much research before I came here to curltalk- my research just wasn't as fruitful in terms of getting results.

Anywho, I just thought that I'd share the flattering parts with you ladies! I apologize for my ramblings, lol.

Hey you guys!! To assist with the challenge I'm thinking about oil rinsing. Do any of you guys do that??
I do oil rinses occasionally now that I'm participating in the coconut oil challenge, I'll do them more frequently. But I do feel that they help if you do them "correctly"

Don't you hate those moments when you finally figure something out that's been going wrong, only to realize it should have been crystal clear? Yeah, that just happened to me this morning, lols.

Last week I noticed that my hair felt funny on wash day. I assumed that I had added too much oil to my Suave Naturals conditioner that I use to style, or I had added too much honey to my curl cream. So I let it go, just took care on my multiday hair not to be too rough. Then on my next wash day, I mixed up more curl cream, did an quickie coconut oil pre-poo (5 hours instead of 8+), and did my normal shampoo routine with the Curls unleashed sulfate free poo I had gotten on clearance. So my hair was good for a bit but then it was looking sooooo frizzy, felt a little gunky, and was stiffish even after scrunching out the crunch. Wednesday I did a gelatin treatment which helped some of the frizz but still had that gunky/stiff feeling.

I was seriously getting worried- how was I going to figure out what I needed to change? Did this mean I have my porosity wrong? Oh my goodness, I prefer going to the store to get products and the selection here is not exactly all that great! AAAAhhhhhhh! So I went to shower this morning and decided to do a sulfate wash. So I felt really stupid as I began putting my TreSemme naturals lower sulfate shampoo on and I could feel the difference. I felt so silly, lols. I mean I had low-pooed but I think the last time I clarified was end of March or beginning of April I think. My hair is much better now and I'm happy once again, lols. Thank you for this time to vent my frustrations with myself. Have a wonderful weekend!

Congrats LOLO on the compliments.

I have decided to just cowash and wear my hair in a braided bun. An sleep in a silk scarf. I am hoping that this won't give me too much damage.

Twists and bobby pin buns to keep my hair off my shoulders and back.

I plan to trim 1-2 inches off my hair at the end of the year or to where it is just below my bra strap which for me is MBL.
I have also been keeping up with my workout routine, and
my pescetarian/pescatarian life style choice is keeping my eating habits in check!
