2014 One Inch Per Month Challenge

Like Tree436Likes

Hi! It's been a little over two months since I last checked in, and I thought it might be a good time to do it. Here are my results:

Middle/Top: I went from 10 inches (4-16-14) to 10.5 inches
Front: I went from 6.5 inches (4-16-14) to 9.5 inches (YAY!!)
Back: I went from 4.5 inches (4-16-14) to 7 inches (Also yay!!)

Oh my gosh, I am SO excited! Overall I've been experiencing incredible growth and I've just about caught up to my slightly stunted growth during my first three months. The only thing that I'm concerned about is the hair on the top which only grew 0.5 inches. Does anyone have any idea why and/or what I can do about it? Here's a little information about my regimen: I do protein treatments monthly, I DC every other week, I wash once a week and co wash once a week, I do scalp massages the weeks I don't do a DC, and I tend to slack off on protecting my hair at night. Oh, I also have more exciting news: When I first cut my hair it went down to about my earlobes while straight, but now it's at my collar bone! Yay!

Also how do you protect your hair when you go outside? The top layer is the most exposed to the sun. Also when heat styling people tend to focus a lot of heat on the top and sides because that is what is most visible to the eye, as opposed tothe back and under layers.

How do you rinse out your conditioner? I suggest flipping your head over(instead of simply standing under the shower head which gets rid of most of the conditioner at the top because of the direct water flow hitting that area constantly) , that way the excess conditioner can get trapped at the top of your hair instead of the back and under layers.

You said you tend to slack at protecting your hair at night? How do you sleep? Are the top and sides of your hair exposed to fabrics
Do you do tight buns in the back that would but stress on the top and sides of your hair?

That's about all I can thing of for now. Best wishes!

I haven't checked in for a while. How is everyone doing on the challenge? I wish I would have measured way back at the beginning, oh well. Since March when my hair was just a bit past my chin, it is now right past my clavicle. I'm sure I could estimate the measurement.... looks like about or a little more than 4".
2c-3a - coarse - normal-high porosity - high density - growing out to donate

NP/LP: KMF Whenever Conditioner/ YTCucs
RO/LI: Sevi Pumpkin Seed DC / CJ Argan & Olive Oil, KCKT, YTBbs
DT: Coconut Oil + scalp massage
OIL/STYLER: SM Elixir / KCCC
COLOR: henna, amla & indigo

I'm surprised by just how long my hair looks when wet; it's really getting some length! Shrinkage though, man, it kills me.

I can't wait to see how long it looks come December though. I'm going on holiday then and it'll be great to have some longer locks.

Same here! My hair feels like it stays one length until I get it wet or I straighten it (shhh.. you didn't hear me say that). Curly hair sure is a pain to grow out isn't it?

@sixelamy And I ws thinking about you. You need to try that new shea moisture line. I'm thinking the tahitian noni might be great for you! Cause from wjat I can remember you missed your curl junkie repair me terribly. I haven't tried the new line myself nut I think you would like it. And yeah I'm living with my parents again-long story lol. But I will probably transfer next year if I'm lucky. How are you? And how is your hair?!

I tried it when it came out and I hated it!! It says on the bottle that it "contains straightening ingredients". It made my hair something awful, but it smelled so amazing! My hair is great, I've got my routine down. Been lazy though and wearing it up a lot since I go into work a half hour earlier in the summer, boo. Believe it or not, my hair doesn't like too much protein anymore, so I've switched to the CJ Argan & Olive Oil, and found I am absolutely in love with the Sevi Pumpkin Seed conditioner.. drooooooooool.

How's your hair doing? Still growing? I'm glad you're settled for now. Hope everything is alright in that department.

Im starting to go through this super weird mullet, my little back hairs are curling back and up, looks so ridiculous. Im trying to conceal it with headbands (and just not looking lol).
Is this just a phase I must go through or I can trim it and let the layers catch up a bit (will it help?)
I get that in front.. the only thing that will fix it is to trim all the other layers except the one that's curling up so high.

@sixelamy Really?! I wanted to try it too but it scared me a little. Your analysis is enough for me to stear clear though. And I LOVE CJ O+A. THAT IS MY STUFF. have you tried any if their other stuff lately? A lot us on sale at curlmart right now. It's mighty tempting... and where do you order sevi?

And yes my hair is still growing. I have three shea moisture shampoos I'm rotating but I'm starting to think I need to get back to cowashing since its summer. I've just been alternating between cj stuff, kckt/kccc, and old reliable shea moisture. I haven't had a trim since. And although my ends feel a little rough/dry, there aren't any splits. I think sealing and a moisturizing leave in could remedy that. I was gonna go back and get a deva but I really want to try going one length or blunt. My 3a/3b might turn more 2c but I'm wanting the thickness and easy hair cuts. Devas for me are an hour away and expensive (which isn't a problem) but I hate that it's cut in such a way that when my hair grows out it doesn't fall right unless I go back. I probably sound crazy but its almost like its unnatural in a way. Like if I was in the wild and didn't have access to the weird cutting it would look like some kinda shrub. I want to try cutting it according to the CG handbook though, curl by curl but with very little to no layers. I just haven't had my hair like that in years either. So we will see. Besidesn I can always go back and have it cut.
And thanks haha. It is what it is at home. Could be worse. How's the diet?

I'm actually getting rid of my stash right now.. trying to use everything up or sell/donate it. My bathroom thanks me. My main products I can't live without right now are YTCucs shampoo (even though I'm out, I'm waiting for it to go on sale soon.. if not I'm gonna break down), Sevi Pumpkin Seed deep conditioner, CJ A&O conditioner, YTBbs conditioner, and Kiss My Face Whenever Conditioner for my cowash. Oh, and KCKT for winter and KCCC everyday. I swear, if no other products ever existed in life, I wouldn't care. I went back to a regular cut and haven't gotten it cut for 4 months, that's my new record! Don't have any split ends, but some ends are dry since I straighten every now and again. Diet is going well, I've lost over 5 lbs!

You can get sevi here: Sevi Eco Vegan Hair + Bodycare
I like their shampoos too, the Seabuckthorn Berry smells amazing and stays in your hair! I also use it as a body wash sometimes.

@sixelamy That's great! I need a new cowash and CJ daily fix just isn't my thing anymore. As I Am has polyquats and you know how we feel about those. I might have to try out what you're loving right now. We're usually quite similiar. I love repair me and rehab occasionally. And kckt/kccc are also still in my rotation. Where do you order your KMF conditioner? I am getting into ridding all the unneccesary stuff I have. I have mostly shea moisture stuff in my stash. How often do you wash/co wash?
