2014 One Inch Per Month Challenge

The hair mayonnaise I believe is considered to be a form of protein treatment. Many people swear by it.
And I realized that you use 4 layers to LOC. How do you keep that from making your hair feel oily to the touch? My hair gets oily when I apply enough product to trap the water in. And when I apply a small amount of product, my hair becomes dry almost instantaneously

But about the mayonnaise, knowing fully well it contains protein, I just thought it to be part of the DC process cos I normally use mayonnaise and coat it with essential oils and honey when deep conditioning my hair.
As a protein treatment, do you just apply the mayonnaise alone to your hair?

Also the LOC method, I meant to say raw shea butter or African pride shea butter miracle buttery crème cos I use only one of them.
I think I use only two layers really, because my hair does get oily easily. Since I have a container of coconut oil and olive oil mixed together, I assume (somewhere in my head) that it is one oil mixture (lol), and then I apply my raw shea butter or the african pride shea butter as the case may be.
Absolutely joining in on this. I have fine hair that grows impossibly slow so this will definitely be a challenge. Does anyone have any tips to prevent breakage? I rarely use any heat (diffuser every once in a while & heat styling once a month), and any trimming just cuts off any length.

Curl type: Mostly 2c with some 3a and 2b.
Strand thickness: Fine.
Porosity: Low.
Current length: About an inch or so past shoulder length.

The length I aim for: BSL, if I'm lucky.

Challenge Rules:
1. A healthy diet with lots of water
I usually do this anyways.
2. No or minimal heat styling (at most once a month)
I will most likely blow-dry with a diffuser every now and then, and I will try my best not to touch up any curls with a wand.
3. No harsh chemical treatments
Just getting my hair colored once every 4 months.
4. No excessive hair trimming
I will probably not trim my hair until next year, it just chops all my length off.
5. No fine-toothed combs or brushes
I'll try my best. I do brush after the shower.
6. Low manipulation as much as possible
I don't do much to my hair anyways.

Sub-Challenges:
Finger detangling. No popping/tearing hair with combs and brushes
Castor oil scalp stimulation

Other techniques I intend to use for hair growth and retention:
Protective styling: I wear my hair in a bun almost every day.
Regular scalp massage: I intend to do this with Jamaican Black Castor oil
Vitamins and supplements: Biotin (2500 mcg a day)

Techniques and products you will use to keep your hair strong and moisturized:
DC: Leave in product
LOC method: I use Pureology Hyrdate shampoo & conditioner, moroccan argan oil, and Shea Moisture coconut & hibiscus curl & style milk.
Others: Nexxus Pro-Mend Split End Binding treatment, once a week.

3C/4A Fine texture, low porosity, low/medium density? Trying CG since Dec. 2013
Shampoo: Curl's Creamy Curl Cleanser or clarifying shampoo when needed.
Co-wash: Curl's coconut curlada
Deep Condition: Experimenting in the kitchen
oil: flaxseed and coconut for treatments
Styler: Tresemme conditioner, alone or mixed together with aloe vera gel
Sealer: aloe vera juice
A more flexible goal of 1/4 to 1 inch will result in a lot less (predictable) disappointment. Better yet, why shouldn't it just be left up to each individual to measure her personal growth each month and report back here w/that number? Otherwise, you may find lots of people drop out of this challenge early because they're falling far short of that unrealistic 1 inch per month goal.

Thank you, MaraHanna.

I seem to be one of the few who has never tried oils for anything for my hair. I tried the coconut oil/sweet almond oil after my shower before my gel for the last two days but it makes my hair really flat and not as curly so I will switch this to a two or three time overnight idea.

Have started the inversion method, we will see. It cant hurt!

24 degrees today!! wind chill 16!! may have to diffuse before I leave the house for a few minutes in the back of my head or it will NEVER dry!!!

Maybe the challenge doesn't have the best name - I can't speak for anybody else, but it grows at the rate it is going to grow, probably no matter what I do to it. But this is a great place to exchange new ideas and help people out that need advice, as well as grow from this experience (no pun intended) and gain new knowledge.

Having said that, my hair has grown this much since just over 2 months ago. I'm quite happy! Please ignore the heart and star, I'm mysterious.. lol

Ok, that didn't work out like I thought it would- is there a way to give reference to individuals you want to point out in messages here? For instance I finally learned this summer about the @ + username on facebook to do that. I think I finally figured out the multi-quote that many others here seem to be so great at using, but man am I bad at using it. =(

Okay ladies- today I'm supposed to do a deep conditioning treatment to my hair. Since I'm trying out the CG method I can't use my normal treatment of the ORS replenishing pac or the cantu shea leave in. Those products had protein in them, so I'm a little worried now about not getting enough protein in my hair.
Since this is going to be routine for next year anyway, I'm going to do a tester kitchen mixer session with iagirl's protein treatment, then add mayo, my aloe juice (it really smooths my ends so far so we'll see if it helps here too), honey, and extra oil and blend it all up in my blender to use. I'm also psyched that I have a gelatin packet that's half used which is the recommended amount for hair above the shoulders. I'll let you know how it goes- I'm planning on leaving the mixture on for 45 minutes to an hour under a plastic cap (or with heat for 10-15 minutes). I'll even try to get pictures. Off to mix! =)

@lori.mattox I love when girls get to mixing concoctions. It sounds a bit silly but its such a spirtual thing for me lol. Let me know how it goes I'm curious!
