Okay, lately I've been desperately itching to make a big change with my hair. You know when you just have that urge? But cut wise I feel, /personally/, that you can't do much with curly hair naturally. I can't cut my hair to a short style and expect to style it neatly because my hair wouldn't go straight or wavy, it would curl up more. Ive loved and always admired the partial side shave hairstyle, I think it's gorgeous, but I've never seen it done on naturally curly hair. Do you think it would look odd on mid-back length, 3a/3b hair? Of course I know, there's no way to know for sure until I try it but it's obviously not the easiest thing to commit to in case it looks bad lol. Though I plan on doing it more to the side where if I would like, I can move my part over and cover it a bit, but I'm getting it for it to show right? So I thought I'd just ask you wonderful people your thoughts. Yay or nay on curly hair? Would it look off? I dont plan on shaving too far back either, it would stop right at the front of the top of my ear, so right where my ear begins basically. Thank you in advance <3 pictures of my natural hair can be provided. I wear it natural and out just about every day, or just up in a bun when Im too lazy to wash and refresh haha

*Also, I plan to shave it down to a 3 or a 4. Not completely buzzed.
Hair Type: 3a/3b, dark brown, blonde highlights, normal - high porosity, fine - medium strands
Low Poo: Live Clean Moisturizing Shampoo (lowpoo)
Condish: Aussie Moist or Tresemee Naturals
Leave In: Giovanni DLI or Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine LI
Styling: Curls Rock Amplifier, Pantene Curl Defining Mousse (HG)
My hair loves protein!
Honestly I don't like the half shaved look on anyone's head, curly or straight haired. I recently saw a little girl with it and I thought it looked awful. She even had a star shaved into it. But it's ur hair so good luck with whatever u do

That look can be achieved with most (if not all) hair textures, whether straight or curly. But before you go cutting it off, I suggest you just make a deep side part and do side flat twists on the side that you would like buzzed off.

It's sort of like a cheat, so that you can get an idea of what you would look like with it, but the great thing is that you can always take the flat twists down! You can't immediately grow back buzzed of hair.

I got the idea from Cutegirlshairstyles.com, I've been going to their website regularly for a long time because they come up with great hairstyles (and a lot of them can actually be done on curly hair, it just looks different). Here is a page they have on their website demonstrating the side flat twists: Side Flat Twists | Back-to-School Hairstyles | Cute Girls Hairstyles

You could also do cornrows instead of flat-twists, they would stay in longer but take a little longer to do.

I'm not a fan of the buzzed side look. But to me the side flat twists/cornrows can be pulled off.
Hair type: 4b with 3c on top
High density, medium porosity, thick with medium width strands, back grows faster than front

Length: APL | BSL | MBL | WL
I don't care for the look either, but if you're serious about it, I think trying the braids first is a good idea - the shaving is quite a commitment that you'll be stuck with for a long growing out period, whether you end up liking it or not. No one's likely to like the shaved look long-term so dealing with that growing out is something you're eventually going to have to contend with.

You don't have to shave it to achieve the look you want, like the girls have said you can just braid/twist it to achieve the look and save your hair. You might regret shaving it off later and want to have it long again.
Thanks for all the thoughts/advice everyone Also super massive thank you to GotitorDont for that tutorial link! I am honestly pretty terrible with braid styling hair so it took me a while to get it right but I got it done mostly right after a while and I LOVE the way it looks. Definitely affirms my desire for the side shave. I am very okay with waiting for my hair to grow out/going through the long process of growing the shaved area out, should I want my normal hair again, otherwise I wouldn't really be considering this style :P As a nice bonus it is all very very easy to hide/conceal should I want to do so, it takes a simple switch of the side you part your hair on and ta-da Also my hair is very thick so that makes things even easier to cover, which I can do when I decide to grow my hair out again. I totally get that the style isn't for everyone, and that it will definitely bring a lot of judgement as do most more "out there" styles but I've always loved it, for years, so it's not an issue to me. It is for me anyway, to make me happy, since lately I've just been very unhappy and bored with my hair, and overall wanting a change in my look (I've just lost a lot of weight, and my entire appearance is really changing so now is the best time for this). So thanks again, I appreciate it

I don't personally like the look, but it could look great I think. I don't know if having curly hair makes a difference if it is shaved. I guess trying it out is the only way to know. But I think trying the braids first was a great idea. I was wondering the same about an asymmetrical bob. I have been wanting to do something way different with my hair, but I'm not as brave. =)

DO IT. I'm curly I wanted something different I did the side shave. It's fabulous and I love it. I can straighten and curl you can style in so many ways. Trust me I get people giving me their un solicited opinions on my side shave but they just have no edge. Xxx
Ah, please don't do it. IT's so played out. Like honestly, almost every girl on my campus did the Cassie look (shaved sides). It's soooooo unoriginal. If you want to do something different, how about an ombre on curly hair with abnormal colors like purple or something? or a curly a line bob?

I think it would look really good I have a few friends with this cut and it always looks great (even on curly hair) Definitely go for it as even if you don't like it, it isn't too difficult to cover up! The style possibilities are endless!
