Second day hair

When my hair dries the day I wash it it looks great, but I can't seem to achieve second day hair. It seems like I've tried everything, from sleeping on a silk pillow case to using a silk sleeping cap. Any tips on achieving second day hair?

curlicious13 12-15-2013 12:00 PM

On wash day, after I put in my leave in, I put a boat load of styling product. Styler of choice: gel or curling custard. I apply the gel or custard to small sections & the to each curl in that section from root to tip. After applying product, I sit under a warm dryer to speed up drying & allow my curls to cast. This helps my wash & go stay for at least 4 days. After about 4 or five days, my hair starts to look matted then its time to wash again.

I need help with this too! Don't like my 2nd day hair. Always frizzy. I'm looking for a miracle 2nd day product. Ha! I was wanting to try Deva Curl Styling Cream. Tried CJ CCCC-L and hated it.

I like the deva care arc angel gel.

Mine's frizzy and shrinks, if you know what I mean. Like it's shorter the next day for some reason.

YES! Mine too! I just thought it was something I had to live with bc even if it feels moist enough it's still not as defined and smaller. The only way it starts to stretch is if I take a hair pic to it.

I tried using a hair pic & had major split ends. But not I use a denman brush & love it. Also try using the denman brush to distribute your cowash & leave in conditioner. This will help define your curls & once you out in the gel or custard of choice keep down frizz.

I have corkscrew curls & I deal with extreme shrinkage & high frizz. Frizz gets worse if my hair is cut too short. This helps a lot.

Have you tried braiding it and then undoing the braid the next morning and styling it with your fav products? I just tried this and today I got fab hair!!

Which denman brush do you use, and how do you use it when you wash and on second day hair?

curlicious13 12-15-2013 11:12 PM

I think its d3. But I use it once I apply my cowash to make sure it's evenly distributed. I also use it to distribute my leave in. I don't have to do anything to my second day hair.

@curliscious13- I don't use my pic often but I haven't noticed split ends from it. I only use mine on my roots though- I try to stay within an inch or two area from my scalp just enough to lift the roots up and away. Thanks for the heads up!

I will admit that my Denman leaves my dried hair smaller than finger detangling/styling does. I hate that effect the most while my hair is wet bc I already tend to have a lot of scalp showing and that makes it worse. :/ I may have to revisit trying it when my hair is longer though. Right now the length varies from 3-5 inches but havent tried it again; when I tried denman styling my hair was 5-7 inches long.

@ansleybirch13 have you had any success since your first post?

I'm washing my hair tomorrow morning, so tomorrow night I'm gonna braid it and see how it looks when I wake up! I'll let y'all know the results!

Samanthascurlz 12-17-2013 03:13 PM

I have noticed in higher dews, it is more difficult for myself to achieve beyond 2 day hair. But in lower dews I have been achieving 6 day hair. I believe, as other posters have stated, that what you do on wash day will be the basis of how your hair will be for the next few days.

My advice is merely more of styling. I won't give any suggestions for products since that is a hit and miss. We all have different hair. I think making sure you section your hair, when wet, and applying your product throughly, truly helps make sure each curl is captured and moisturized.

At night, I think pineappling is a great method. However, I pineapple and also use a scarf on top to ensure that my hair isn't roughed around. In addition, applying a little water (using a spray bottle) and then a little sealer (such as coconut oil or olive oil) and then pineappling, has assisted my hair to lessen with frizz and keeps it refreshed to last longer. Also, manipulating it less when it's in its dry state has also helped make my hair last longer.

Hope some of these suggestions help.

I can't get second day hair unless I use gel. With gel I can go for a week without re-doing however my hair gets dirty and I try to wash every 3-4 days

AnsleyBirch13 12-18-2013 08:51 AM

So I dampened my hair last night, applied coconut oil, braided, and slept on a silk pillow case. I woke up and after undoing the braid, dampening, and applying product, I love the result! Minimum frizz and it doesn't shrink! I'm definitely going to continue doing this

It's about shoulder length I guess... A few inches from BSL

Lady_Creole 12-20-2013 11:18 PM

I have shoulder length hair, [longer when stretched], and I have been getting "week long hair" with the products I have been using. Yes!!!

I find it is best to add the products on very wet hair...
  • co-wash with Tresemme'
  • soak with Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Curl and Style Milk.
  • apply Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie thickly, [let dry].
  • Pull up in pineapple...finger comb next day and go!
  • That night...spray hair with aloe vera water...detangle...braid.
  • Next day, separate and finger comb.
  • That night...spray with SM C&H Curl and Style Milk mixed with water, [3/4 water and 1/4 milk]...detangle...add a little KC Curling Custard to each section, [very lightly on hands], braid.
  • Next day, separate and finger comb.
  • Alternate all week, wash on weekend.
My hair looks great! I can see the length and it is wavy and curly.

PS...also, mid-week I will add some coconut oil mixed with essential oils to add sheen.

I am loving this!!!

Ok- I was thinking it was longer. My hair is much shorter and in that awkward stage. I'll have to wait a bit before I can pineapple or braid at night.

I did just see a technique from naptural85 that I'm going to try. She spritzed a small amount of water on her wash and go, covered with plastic shower caps, and then a scarf. In the morning her hair was well moisturized, and she showed how it lasted for about a week like that.
