I figured that might be the case, and I know that - in general - the old saying "you get what you pay for" is actually true! I'm sure I'll buy some at some point, as I'm certainly not above spending that much money on something that's worth it. However, I just spent almost $200 on make-up, so I think I'll hold off on the other for awhile. LOL. My husband is supportive, but I'm driving him crazy enough with the hair stuff as it is. I don't think the BRHG hold is much stronger than Got2B's. I do like the BRHG's thinner consistency and subtle scent though. I need to use a lot of leave-in cond under both, and I only use them on soaking wet hair, before I towel it. Otherwise, I get stringy, producty looking curls. I do find I use about the same amount of both gels.

Re: polyquat based gels, the only one with decent hold for me is B&A, which is actually fairly economical -- I do find I use less of that one. I think it's polyquat-10 though. But a much stronger hold than the HE gels for me. A good gel has been the hardest thing to find. Great cond? Check. Nice non-sulfate 'poos? Check. Gel? Hmmmmmm

What is B&A?

I used the HE SMU regular gel this morning, and I think if it weren't for the rainy humid weather today, it would've worked well!

I also found a full bottle of LA Looks Sport blue gel in my bathroom this morning! YAY for being a packrat! LOL

What is the difference between HE BE and HE TT as far as hold and crunchiness? Are they similar? I'm currently using the TT but am curious to try the other.

I like the Dep Texture gel, and the Suave gels (I liked the anti-frizz, but I think they've reformulated or done away with it altogether.)

Body Envy has lots more hold for me. It doesn't get too crunchy, and any crunch is very easily scrunched out. TT didn't have enough hold for me, and my hair got limp and wavy very quickly. Hope that helps!

Oh, and to answer the question in the subject line...

I am LOVING L'Oreal Studio Tightly Wound right now. It's terrific. It has been perfect for winter weather. When spring hits, I'm planning on switching back to my summer favorite, Herbal Essences Body Envy. I used it a few days ago, and sprayed a bit of TW into my hands to scrunch after it was dry. Ooh la la, sooo many curls! I loved the effect. The TW worked to get rid of the stiff-looking bit, and bump up the curl. It was terrific. I'll be doing that again.
