Anyone take fish oil supplements?

Weird question, huh? But I got to thinking that my hair has been behaving differently within a couple of weeks after starting to take fish oil tablets. I have inherited high cholesterol, and I thought incorporating fish oil in my daily regimen of vitamins may help. But I'm noticing that although my second day hair looks good, it tends to start feeling a bit oily and smell like it hasn't been washed. This is quite a departure from my normally parched hair during the winter. I can't even use a leave-in without my hair being totally flat and lifeless and feeling downright greasy (I've tried many suggested on this board). I also shampoo with a mild sulfate shampoo, so I don't think it's buildup.

Has anyone else tried fish oil and noticed any changes?

Nope. I take flax seed oil, but extra oil would be welcome for me. BF takes fish oil (Omnacor) for his sky-high chol/trig & says he hasn't noticed any diff in his 2B hair.

I take both the Omega-3 Fish oil capsules plus Flaxseed, and haven't noticed any changes for the worse with my hair. Fishy smelling would not be good though.

I take fish oil and evening primrose oil, haven't noticed any difference to my hair.
I take fish oils and haven't had a problem. Everyone reacts differently to meds so maybe talk to you doc about it?

I've taken all three of the above mentioned oils as well as combinations of fish and flax seed over the years. I didn't really notice any hair changes. It's good for for depression though and I think my skin was a little less dry.
The smell could certainly be the fish oil. Maybe try switching to flax seed oil and see if it changes.

I take cod liver oil (not as gross as you'd think....really!) and it totally helped my skin and my hair.

Didn't break out near as much as usual, and my eyes weren't as dry either.

Thanks for all of the responses. I did want to clarify that my hair doesn't smell like fish or the capsules, just doesn't smell "fresh." It just smells the way my hair used to smell if I didn't wash it for maybe three days, but now the very next day it starts to smell that way. Just seems that the oils are working the way they should, my hair isn't nearly as dry. But since it isn't as dry, I can wash it more frequently.

Andy Maybewavy, I think you're on to something. I did have some very dry eyes, and now that you mention it, my eyes aren't nearly as dry anymore. I forgot about it since they weren't bothering me any more.

I plan to continue the fish oil due to the health benefits, and the oilier hair is just a surprise that may or may not be a side-effect. Judging from everyone else's responses, I'm guessing there's another reason behind it. After some research online, it could just be due to the conditioners I have been using that may be a bit too rich for my fine hair. I had been using Curls Ecstasy Green Tea conditioner and a Goldwell conditioner for curly hair. Maybe a lighter conditioner will work. I'll report back after I try.

My skin and therefore my scalp is a little oilier now that I take omega supps but I don't notice a smell.
I've been slacking lately because my stomach doesn't like the fish oil. I was reading ya'll talk about the dry eyes, I wonder if something without fish oil would help that. My eyes have been so dry for a few years now I'm constantly putting drops in them. It would be nice if I could fix that with a supplement

If it smells good put it in your hair, if it tastes good spit it out!
