Default Does anyone comb in their styling products?

Hi all!

My styling routine involves me applying my gel to soaking wet hair whilst in the shower. I usually rake or scrunch it in. I am wondering, if I use a wide-tooth combed and comb in my gel or styling cream, what would happen?

Would it ruin my curl formation and cause frizzy weird-looking curls? My goal is elongation. My curls are pretty tight.

Anyone done this?

TIA!

I just did it today, just for the heck of it...it was a little straight at the top but I got great curls on the bottom half of my hair, great clumping...and some elongation -- it was nice for a little change...I didn't really like it being a little flat on top though, but that is just my hair, it's kind of fine 3b (I always thought my hair was coarse, but it's actually fine I just have a lot!)

I've done it before with good results. I would normally comb through a samll amount of Curl Fx Fixative Booster Gel (a thick gel) and then refrom the culrs by scrunching in some Curl Fx Mousse. I always thought it turned out well--not quite as curly, especially towards the part line, but still good. I definitely got less frizz.

I do this every so often with nice results. I comb it more to distribute product and then I gently scrunch once just to encourage the curls. It does elongate and clump very nicely.

Yes! I did this exact techinque and I am liking the results.

Hockeymom, I am seeking to loosen my curl on top, so this is pretty good for me.

Thanks for the helpful replies, girls!!

I did my hair again today this way and really like it...it is more uniform, even if it is a bit less curly...it's a nice change

tooj68, let us know how your experiments go!

I've only tried it a couple times and it didn't work for me. Left me with skinny, stringy curls.

Too, our hair is pretty similar, and I definitely get more elongation and some loosening when I use a wide tooth comb in the shower. Helps reduce frizz too.

This is how I style my hair! Raking in products never worked for me. Makes a mess out of my hair and fingers and leaves me with unpredictable results. I comb in the products upright, then flip my hair over and comb my hair out again, then flip back up and rearrange the stray curls. Gives me more volume at the top this way.

Good to know! I think I am going to do my hair this way for awhile!

Usually I have to (Co) wash my hair on Saturday, just to have it loose enough to look presentable by Monday for work, but at this rate, I MIGHT actually be able to wash and go out the same day!!
Wow! That would be a first!
It may sound strange, but I usually have TERRIBLE first day hair which is why I only wet/cowash once a week!

here is a humongous pic from one of my combing experiments a while back before the winter hit and my hair went "flop."

I always comb now. I was surprised to find that it doesn't pull out the curl (as long as I scrunch again after) and it actually gives me better clumping. For me, getting even distribution of my styler is important, and this seems to work the best.

Yes, that's an important step. I squeeze my hair into one big rope afterward, then scrunch upward with additional product.
