Pineapple Troubles...

Sorry if this thread has already been created! I have 2b-3b curls that go all the way down my back and for some time, I have been doing the pineapple method (ponytail on top of head) at night after showering, as I don't have time to style in the morning. When I take out the ponytail, my curls look great everywhere except the roots, where I have very strange bumps that stick out from my hair in odd ways. I also get a ring around the top of my head from the scrunchie I use

Does anyone know a way to avoid these lumps and bumps, or even a better way to sleep with my wet hair at night? Btw I have already tried buns, braids, plopping, etc. none of which work for me.
Thanks in advance!
You're supposed to use a fabric scrunchie and don't wrap it twice so it won't leave an indent. I also think it works better on dry hair.

This may be a little uncomfortable but have you thought of maybe getting those small jaw clips, put them on your crown to secure, then pineapple around it? It would secure the root and still allow you to pull up the length. I've done it before and it helps.

I will say I'm a 2c (more waves than curls) and pineappling doesn't work well for me. I started letting my hair down, sleeping on a silk pillow, and then lightly misting my hair in the AM to detangle. I've also used the jaw clips after remisting, do my makeup, then remove the clips and I normally have nice little curls on top.
Ok, so what I use may sound a little unorthodox- but it works! Have you heard of 'sock buns'? Basically, you take a clean sock which you don't need (always have that one without a pair!) and using scissors, cut the top inch of it. This makes sort of a thick elastic, which I use for pineappling, and it doesn't leave a dent at all for me on dry hair.
Dry your roots before you pineapple? Otherwise way looser pineapple.
2a-2c, medium texture, porous/ colour treated. Three years CG. Past bra strap length heading for waist.

CO-wash: Inecto coconut/ Elvive Volume Collagen
Treatments: Komaza Care Matani, coconut/ sweet almond/ fractionated coconut oils, Hairveda Sitrinillah
Leave in: Fructis Sleek & Shine (old), Gliss Ultimate Volume, various Elvive
Styler: Umberto Giannini jelly, Au Naturale styling gelee
Flour sack towel, pixie diffuse or air dry.
Experimenting with: benign neglect
I had this problem. I now use a jaw clip. The only difference is that I grab my hair at a LOW pony tail, twist the whole length up to the top of my head and jaw clip at the top (where the pony would be for the pineapple) I have bra strap length hair so if I would do a regular pineapple with a jaw clip my hair would be in my face. Also I recommend a good jaw clip. I've used cheap dollar store ones and they aren't smooth and snag my hair. I have one now from goodie and it's working a lot better.

Finally I had a successful pineapple today
Usually it's terrible and I end up getting better results just wearing it out while sleep

MY ULTIMATE GOAL: HEALTHY (almost)BRA STRAP LENGTH CURLS
Don't know how long that would be straight lol
I actually do a wet-plop. After my shower before bed, I apply all my products and I plop with a flour cloth. I get 4 in a pack for $5 at Walmart.

In the morning my hair is still damp, I either let it air dry for the rest of the time or I will diffuse. This is the only thing that really works for me. I would have to get up 2 hours a head of time to style my hair since it takes FOREVER to dry. I have tried the wet pineapple also, but it makes my hair sort of wonky.

I have wet-plopped for 4 years. Since I have to be at work at 7 am this has been a life saver.

3b, Medium-Coarse (slight coarse charactericstics), Normal porosity & Low elasticity per Curl Wizard Profile.
Low-poo: Nourish Shampoo
Co-wash: Suave, Vo5, HE, Aussie Moist
Deep Conditioner: GVP Conditioning Balm
Leave-in: Nourish Conditioner (Trader Joe's)
Stylers: LA Looks Sports, Coconut Oil, Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil.
Methods: Wet plop or pineapple at night, diffuse in the morning. Scrunch w/joboba, coconut or almond oil.
+1 to MarciPie's method - this is what I do when I wash my hair at night. The curls aren't as perfect as when I have time to wash in the morning, but they still turn out well and I don't get the weird bump/lumps from a wet pineapple.
2c/3a, botticelli/wavy/'swavy (huh?)
fine, dense, normal porosity/elasticity, dry climate

My favorite brands are Kinky Curly, As I am, Curly Kinks, Curl Junkie, and Darcy's Botanicals. Also love sealing with oils (loving argan oil right now) and styling with jelly products (KCCC is my current favorite). Mostly trying to keep it simple!
