How Can NaturallyCurly.com Improve?

Like Tree107Likes

the frizz finder is all wrong.

after it gives the dew points, which seem to be accurate, the rest is WRONG. the categories do not match the correct dew point levels. hence, any poor curly trying to work with the weather and her hair will end up with either a dry puffball or a hot stringy mess.

if it cannot be corrected, maybe just give the dew points, then a general guide about dew levels, i.e., 40-60 is mid, rest is either above or below. then the basic guidelines for each category, and the curly can apply her dew point to the correct category and work from there.

currently, how they arrive at the dew point category/level is a mystery, it is ALWAYS wrong. ??????

i think giving out erroneous information does not induce people to come back to this site, which, of course, is bad for nc business and it looks sloppy. i hate to think of the frustration of a new curly who now knows she needs to consider dew points, but.....??????

btw, i did post a thread in the feedback section on the frizz finder several months ago.

Lauraimes, I have an android and you still can't see siggies. Very annoying because I can't really help people and don't wanna annoy them by always asking what's in their sigs. I couldn't agree more.

I'd like the ability to be able to change my username. I registered as AmandaJ, but something got hinky and instead it ended up being the first part of my email address -- and I'm pretty tech-savvy and forum-savvy, so I have no clue how that went down! Plus it says I joined in 2007 and I actually joined in 2013 so... yeah, weirdness LOL

Also, I'd like to be be able to log into the Tapatalk mobile app. I swear, I'm typing in my correct username and password (I've even tried "AmandaJ" instead of the insane "the.amanda.j"), and it nets me nothing except five failed log-in attempts. I use Tapatalk for another forum so it isn't lack of familiarity with the software, just another case of "hink".

Outside of my personal tech stuff, the CurlTalk forums are fabulous. I don't post much in part because I really can't stand my username (sorry guys, but I don't feel like "me" if that makes sense), and in part because I'm still new to the curly hair world. But I do read and I enjoy learning! I'd be SUCH a product junkie if I weren't busy dealing with pet expenses, LOL. So maybe that's a blessing? Regardless, you ladies all rock -- admins, participants, everyone. Thank you so much for providing such a valuable resource

What about a way to block or hide certain threads that always seem to be used/updated every single day that I have absolutely no interest in reading or taking part in?

So where we're at right now:

We've opened up the floor for suggestions over on the CurlyNikki forum as well, so we are currently managing those requests.

There are other threads in the CT feedback section that talk about other feature requests and updates. I am still keeping tabs on that. Things like tagging people in posts like on Facebook or Twitter, being able to delete your own profile, etc. -- we will prioritize and tackle those asks.

Just wanted to let y'all know that yes -- I'm still keeping an eye on these sorts of requests and suggestions. Thank you for all your input

This keeps coming up for me: when you do a search, the results come up all over the place for dates. It would be really helpful to have newest first since it's often for a product and they change over the years. Then you have to comb through for the most recent results, which are generally the most useful.
Haven't abandoned this thread! If you are also active on the CurlyNikki forum, then you know we're actively making changes there. Some of the requests are similar, and some are very specific to the user experience here at NC. Thanks for all the detailed responses!

Our massive project for 2014 is to redesign the site. Homepage was the first to be completed, and now we're moving on to article pages. It's great to hear feedback about how the search function works and your ability to find information.

If you have immediate problems that need to be addressed (loggin in, etc), head over to the Feedback thread or just email me with your concern. But as you think of ways that we can improve as part of our larger goals to make NC work better for you, please provide your thoughts here!

I think instead of the Q&A section it would be really cool to have a "live chat" section where the editors would be available to answer quick questions via an IM type system.

I also really like the idea of being able to "tag" someone.

Lastly, I find that I don't know how to delete a post/thread I've created on CurlTalk. I'm not sure if this is just me or if others have had trouble with it but that would be something I'd make sure is doable.

Is there a way to keep a user logged in once they log in throughout the whole site? I've noticed I'll log in, but when I want to create a new post or navigate to a subforum, I get logged out and have to log back in again. Is this a security setting?

Happy Monday, everyone! I'm hoping this is the best place to update you all. I can also add it to my announcement thread.

As per your suggestion, we created MUCH better author pages. Now, when you see our curly chemist Tonya McCay's articles, you can click her name and it will take you to her author page: Tonya McKay | NaturallyCurly.com

Note: we are still updating the pages with the author photo + bio, but just wanted to get this news to you. You don't have to scroll through entire articles now - just click the article or click through to the next pages!

Thanks for your patience! I'm sure y'all understand that suggestions like "improve search" are actually a very long process full of technical stuff that I do not comprehend lol our developers are hard at work mapping out and implementing exactly what an improved search means and looks like. All of this while redesigning the site to be more user-friendly.

Talk to you all soon!

I've seen poorly implemented "updates" and "fixes" elsewhere (not this site!), so I know I'd much rather be patient while they work out the best redesign possible and handle any bugs that crop up than to have them rush through and push it out half-finished.
