"Ever since I saw this on pinterest, I've been longing for this style and for those curls.

I wish I had tighter curls, it seems like things come easier to those with 3c-ish. Mine pull out so easily - sixelamy

@sixelamy Me too - I have very similar hair to yours, 2c-3a, and wouldn't you know, my 3a curls are UNDERNEATH the 2c layer. I have to do things JUST right to encourage more curl, and even then, some days my hair won't cooperate. Even with using perfectly good products that work other days - the slightest variation in technique will throw things off for me and I'll end up with droopy curls I do love that pic you posted of your ideal We hybrids have challenges, with our mixed texture hair!

My ideal hair would definitely be 3c all over. I want my hair to spiral and every time I finger coil, the top goes flat, which is partially bc I get lazy and begin making the coils larger. But I wish I didn't have to coil in order to obtain spiral curls. In addition to 3c, I also wish I had a thicker density AND courser hair. I hate how fine my hair is where I have to limit braiding or anything.

High Porosity, Fine, Thin Density, Low Elasticity
Suave for co-wash and rinse out. SM restorative as leave in. Ogx mousse, la looks, la bella, and cantu natural for stylers. Clarify and low poo once a month.

I have to agree, Shakira's hair is so gorgeous. My hair fantasy is Corinne Bailey Rae or Solange Knowles. To me, the bigger the better.

Rethinking all my products currently. Went back to sulfates and have been doing pretty well since I cut most of my damage out. My porosity has lowered and my hair is more consistent.
Shampoo (gasp): Suave Ocean Breeze
Condish: Mostly Suave Coconut(diluted with water), going through old conditioners to see what might work: GVPCB, Jessicurl Aloeba
PT: Not needed much anymore!
Styler: LALSG, FSG

I seriously love her hair. I wish I had the patience to finger (or straw in her case) curl the top of my hair.

If I could get my waves to do this and not frizz everywhere I would love it. For me this is like the best of both worlds, not really curly or straight! Sorry for the pic being so big, don't know how to change that.

She does put it in very wet. Maybe a lot of it comes out with plopping.
Lorraine Massey says to use a TON of gel as well. I may actually try this. I have so much hair on my head, maybe I need more. I started using gel again about a week ago and it definitely improved my definition.

I was actually thinking of adding gel on top of my leave in and then trying to diffuse to see if I get better results than I normally do. Here's to hoping!

"Dang, she uses a buttload of gel. Is this something you need to have curls like this? I usually use a dime size amount, is that too little?" - sixelamy

A dime-sized blob of anything would barely take care of one SECTION of my hair, even though it's the same length and similar curl pattern as sixelamy LOL! I do have to use at least a tablespoon or more of gel(LALSG), work it through really wet hair and scrunch with a microfiber towel. The last two times I made sure my hair was wetter and my curls seem to be clumping better. So yes, I do agree that one does have to use a bunch more gel than is commonly recommended. This is also why I have to keep my products in general cheap drugstore for the most part - no expensive stuff from CurlMart or salons for that matter - I'd go through stuff like that in a couple of weeks or less LOL!
Maybe the key to a natural look with gel is diffusing?

Also, that finger twirl thing seems to do good stuff. Both her and sunkissalba do it and they get great, shiny curls.

I use quite a lot of gel and find it does wonders. I apply my leave-in then slather the gel on, scrunch like a woman possessed et voila! The less gel I use, the less definition I get
