Ideal Hair

Here's mine....I love how shiny it is and the 'rope-i-ness' (yes, I made that up) of the wave/curls. Great cut, too. Attachment 43022

CG since November 2013.

Pre-Poo: Coconut Oil overnight, or a greek yogurt mixture
Shampoo: Curls Cleanser and/or clarifier
Conditioner: trying out different Suave Naturals conditioners and GVP's leave-in conditioner at the moment
Styler: iagirl's super smooth flax curl cream. <3
PT: iagirl's gelatin treatment 3-4 times a month
DT: conditioner or yogurt base with honey and oil if the conditioner has none.
This is my ideal hair. When I first saw my curls I was very surprised. 1 I never knew I had curls, I thought it was just Afro. And 2 my hair actually doesn't have much curl at all. It's kind of like very small and flat ripples. Or krinkles. Like krimped hair. I really want some defined corkscrews.

On any one of those days when my hair is getting on my nerves with the shrinkage or finding more single strand knots, I would gladly trade hair with you! Now don't get me wrong, I love my tight curls especially as far as volume is concerned with my fine textured hair, but sometimes all of my tiny corkscrews make me seriously want to scream, lols. I do have quite a few of the krinkles like you describe just smaller in diameter- The Curly Girl handbook calls them fractal curls.

You may be able to get somewhere closer to corkscrews by doing finger coils while wet though- when I use holding product I can get mine to last for 3-4 days with just refreshing and redoing a few here and there. So far the only holding product I've used though is the Curls passion fruit control paste on my coils, so I haven't changed products. Normally my hair laughs at me trying to make it hold any kind of set curl.

My ideal hair....in an absolutely perfect world and being able to choose my hair I'd say mahoganycurls, sunkissalba, or naptural85.

I'm still trying to find a best routine too. I'm glad I saw you ladies post about the too much gel thing. When I first got my aloe vera gel that happened a few times with too much it was awful.

Have any of you tried using or making a spray gel? I read somewhere to do it you just need to mix gel with boiling water then put it in your bottle. I've been curious about it because it seems like a good way to not go overboard with my gel.

I spray this in wet hair as a curl activator or in towel dry hair as a styler.
I need a stronger hold gel on top of it to maintain good curl formation throughout the day, cause my curl pattern isn't very strong.

For a stronger (stand-alone) gel spray I mix a third part of gel with two-thirds of water. In summer I like this mix a lot with humectant-rich gel.

Gorgeous, Utopianonawa!

I just received my Jane Carter Solution products and I can't wait to try them! It's noon here and I'm already dressed etc so it'll have to wait to tomorrow but I'm so excited. I'll make a new thread to report my findings tomorrow.

Rethinking all my products currently. Went back to sulfates and have been doing pretty well since I cut most of my damage out. My porosity has lowered and my hair is more consistent.
Shampoo (gasp): Suave Ocean Breeze
Condish: Mostly Suave Coconut(diluted with water), going through old conditioners to see what might work: GVPCB, Jessicurl Aloeba
PT: Not needed much anymore!
Styler: LALSG, FSG

Go Red WIngs!

Love those ^^^ mine is so like the last one....and is super defined but pictures never pick up the curls like others can get them too. Mine just blend together. Its so aggravating cause in person its super defined and just spirals. -__-

I don't know that I could ever expect my hair to look like any of these curls but they are definitely just a few of my curl crushes . I folllow lots of curlies on IG so that's where I found Julie Jolie and Alyssa (whom many of you have probably seen). Of course I have always loved Alicia Keys' curls.

Here is another curly whose hair I love. She has different hair now but I watched her tutorial. Its somewhat similar to sunkissalbas bc of the finger coiling. Also they both used SM milk and smoothie. It makes me want to buy it haha. I love the volume and shine!

I LOVE shameless Maya! Her curls are (were) gorgeous. I tried her technique once but thought it was too much. This was before I knew some of my properties and went from soaking wet trying to diffuse without blotting with a t-shirt first lols.

I also really loved the shampoo video she did comparing 4 different curly wash days.
