Hello Curlies...I have had curly hair for my entire life and never new we had are own special identity until I went to a new stylist last week. I have been using the same one for 20 years now and felt I needed a cange! so glad I did! My new hairstylist turned me on to CG and I have found myself here. So here goes. ..I have 3B color very short hair for now. Plan is to grow it longer, but needed to get to a starting point first. I have been halfway doing the Cg thing already. .just didnt know it. Sulfate free shampoo and conditoner, wash every 3 or 4 days and condition in between. But I am ready to jump in with both feet! Reading everything is a bit overwhelming, so I thought I would reach out to my fellow curlies for dome help. Looking for a simple daily/weelky routine to get me started. A few other things about my hair that might help with recommendations. Tendency to get an itchy scalp after about the 3rd day, I do use tea tree and jojoba, dry my hair naturally. .no difusser at all. I dont even own a comb looking forward to hearing from the experts! Thanks in advance!
My weekly or as needed routine: (whenever my hair starts REALLY looks bad) cowash, deep condition, leave in, styler.
Cowash (s): as I am cowash or suave tropical coconut (summer)
Deep conditioner: (about to change) Eden body works. I'm about to change my deep condition because my hair gets dry easily. I need hydrating conditioners.
Leave in: as I am leave in.
Stylers: cantu curling custard or la sport gel.
To refresh or frizz control: I lightly spritz the frizzy section of my hair with water & apply my styler to the damp sections curl by curl. (The side I sleep on will end up frizzy when I wake up) I use a boat load of product because it's hard for my curls to gel cast.

You my consider hydrating products since you say your hair tends to be dry. Oils, I find, can make your hair drier.

Curlicious 13, thank you so much for your help! I would have never thought oil would make my hair dry. Maybe I have bee fighting with fire this whole time! What about your daily routine?
Oh and what kind of ingredients should I look for in hydrating products?
Before anything, it is helpful to find out your hair properties. Do you know these? If not, you can start here - Curly Hair Tips, Styles & Products - NaturallyCurly. The most accurate would be a hair analysis, it can be very helpful. GoosefootPrints on Etsy has a good one.

Everybody's routine varies, and it begins with knowing your properties. From there, you can find what products might be beneficial and what you may need to stay away from.

Yeah! Sixelamy, I am so glad you found me!!! I have love reading your post and the look of your hair is similar too mine. Although mine is curly all the way to the crown. The only thing I know about my hair properties is 3a.....and that is a guess at best. I read your comments about porous, protein sensitive, craving protein , etc. but I had no idea where to start!!!! I will definitely take your advice and start with an analysis. Thanks so much!!! Wish me luck!

Good luck! I'm confused on my properties... I did a not so great analysis and has left me trying new things that don't work. Argh! I'm sending my GoosefootPrints one tomorrow. Can't wait to see what she says, I've heard good things!

There's so many tests for porosity that aren't very accurate, so I'm glad you are looking into the analysis

I love finding people with similar hair. If you feel you have similar hair properties to someone (I look in signatures), you can try out the products that they use. That's kinda what I did to get started.

Arrgg is right!! I figure I can't go wrong with KCCC for styling. Seems to be in everyone's regime so I picked some up last night. I have been using the Deva Curl Arc for years and felt like I wanted to try something different. The consistency was very different then the Deva Curl. If felt like clue to me. I let my hair dry naturally, so after it had dried, my hair was curlier than it has ever been and not in a really good way. Curls going in all different directions. It felt very crispy, so I spritz my hair with the Shea Butter Mist to break up the crispiness. It definitely broke up the crispiness, but my curls went flat And all day I literally felt like I had sticky glue in my scalp. No joke, when I touched my scalp, my finger would stick to my scalp for a second and then I could feel my finger pulling way from wet glue on my scalp.... Yuck! I will give it another try tomorrow with less product and see how that works. If not, I may be back to the Deva Curl.

I do have a question for you, under your signature it does not look like you use a co-wash? Do you use your R0/LI daily and then your poos as needed? That has been pretty much my routine, now I am just trying to ensure I am using the right products that are best for my hair type. So I would use a Trader Joes RO and something different as a LI daily and then wash with Trader Joes about every 3 or 4 days.

I washed my hair today with some crazy expensive organic products. But I am definitely going to have to wash again tomorrow to get this clue out of my hair!!
