Cherub, Wavy or S wavy?

Like Tree1Likes

So I got my hands on the curly girl book and I am wondering on what my curls are??

My hair frizz almost all the time but it could actually be the damage from dying. I have some ringlets here and there

Now I am attaching a pic because as they say a picture is way better

you look 2b/c here but i'm wondering if you're not actually more 2c/3a. bleach can change the curl pattern.
fine - low/normal porosity - medium density - normal elasticity.

Currently using:
Cowash: Cure Care diluted with water 1:1
RO: Cure Care, V05 Kiwi Lime
Styler: UFD CM (old formula), FSG + CNPF
PT: IAgirl's gelatine

Experimenting with: no guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, gelatin gel

Recent findings: my hair likes Cure Care diluted with water as a cowash; does NOT like guar h.c.!

The thing is that curly girl book has categorized type of curls and routines. I am close to cherub curls I think but never on the past I used cond as much as I use now and my hair were never as moisturised. I have seen that what makes me lose definition is dryness. I can't identify what my hair looks like atm

Based on the books categories I would say based on how it looks now I would say wavy in the back and cherub curls in the front. However, you do seem to have root-curl tendencies and the hair up there seems to curl more than lower down, while the weight should give the opposite effect. That makes me think that you have a fair bit of damage. So, my guess is that you either belong to the cherub category all over or botticelli. I don't think you need to be absolute sure though, just take a guess and if you hesitate, read both and try to go with something in the middle or test both. You will still need to figure out how much to leave in to use etc anyway so it's not written in stone.

Regarding the number-letter system, I think you are currently at a 2B/2C/3A, with mainly 2B in the back and some hints of 3A in the front. I would expect this to change though as your hair gets healthier.

Your hair looks a LOT like mine. It's tighter 3a/b botticelli curls around my face and in the back underneath with loose 2c swaves and some loose ringlets in the back. As I condition it more and treat it better my waves in the back are turning into some ringlets as it grows. I highlight regularly so I condition a lot. My hair also LOVES coconut oil prepoo treatments.

I've never colored my hair. When I was a teen I used to use lemon juice in the sun to lighten it and then moved to OTC peroxide sprayed in to lighten it. Did that for a year or so but it's been probably 30 years or more since I've done that.

I'm definitely a "curly" 2c. Sometimes curly and sometimes just wavy upper layer with a ringlety under layer. My hair has been thick and coarse since birth. Strawberry blonde in color that can and does change depending on the type and amount of light.

All in all, I'm happy with my hair type but almost for sure think yours is prettier.
Omg you really think that my hair could be botticelli?? Not in my wildest dreams!!! I am positivly speechless and that gives me motive to continue my cg routine!!!

Although as you said I do have a lot of damage which make my hair tangly and causes me more shed. And inevitable I have to use more condish to detangle. I tried finger combing but my hands didn't got through.

Also my hair as soon as dews went up oils cause me so much frizz. Why is that? When dews were below 40 my hair was cooperative. Now it's so misbehaving. Should I give finger detangling one more chance? My tangles look like fuzzy balls. I will pre poo again on next wash and see how it works. And oily scalp might be not good massaging actually. J used another co wash this time that made my roots not to be stuck on my head but.... I had to detangle and that messed up everything.

I've tried just finger detangling and it's just not enough for me. I use a wide tooth comb after applying my leave in. Gives me good distribution and detangles better. I just make sure it's still very wet and scrunch well after to encourage the curl pattern.

Have you tried a protein treatment?

When the dews go up there is more moisture in the air and if you don't add enough products with ingredients that make sure the hair have enough moisture it will try to steal some from the air => More frizz. Do you use a conditioner as leave in?

Regarding curl type, it is really hard to say until you've taken good care of your hair for a while and have learned how to style it. I only have real damage at my ends, which still is i n fairly good condition, but six months in my hair keeps on changing and the hair growing out since I started is in a very different condition to the rest. Also, the seasons will affect your curls as well.

I ordered my hair analysis today from Goosefootprints on etsy yays!!!

yestheyrereal, I tried wide tooth comb but I can't do the back of my head at all, as you might guess it's the driest and most damaged part of my whole head, so instead I use tangle teezer original or my new addition tangle teezer splash. Also I made a protein based on Science-y Hair Blog but I prepared half the amount she suggested and I used sheets and by the time I would apply it, it became solid.

Jimipe, so from what I pick up the higher the dews the more moisture my hair should have or better sealing? Yes I use my cowash as my LI as the one I was using before, and unfortunatly loving to death, had silicones in it and it eventually build up on my hair.

So the healthier my hair gets the easier to handle? I haven't finished the book yet so I might miss some points atm.

KaZenner1990, yes, the healthier the hair the easier to handle. As long as you know how to handle it. :P You don't have to compensate for damage to the same level.

To make it super-simple, the hair tries to get to the same moisture level as the surroundings. When the dews are really low the air is super dry. As you don't want your hair to get superdry you will have to seal in moisture so that it cannot escape. It gets even more complicated as some products that work well on binding water in higher dews actually can extract water from the hair in the low dews.

When the dews are optimal there is no need to seal in the moisture as it will not leak moisture (=water) to the air. You will however need to make sure the hair has enough moisture so that it does not start feeding on the water in the air and becomes frizzy.

Go and try to find a schampo you can wash the silicone out with and a co-wash that is silicone free. I would start with that and then you can go figure the rest of the things out along the way.

Regularly I was using a low poo but all my hair length prefers co wash. When I do Co-washing thought roots are complaining and become droopy.

That is why I applied for a hair analysis.

After todays wash I think I am so in love!!!! After reading the book everything seems so possible!!! Hair seems to love co wash. Length still tangles but I think I kicked it's butt on the past and it objects for now.

Here is how it looks after a few hours after washing. Roots seem a bit stuck and droopy but ehhh you can't have it all right?

I see some spirals in the back now too, and, that is definitely fitting the description of botticelli I would say. The whole rope-like etc.

Yes, the flat on top is the sudden appearence, before CG I never was flat up here. Try clipping, clipping + gel up there and/or styling upside down. Remember to fluff your roots once it is all dry.

I was thinking about clipping but I seem to lack effectiveness. I end up with disturbed curls. I didn't diffuse though as usually. Only air dry. I have seen some jaw clips on YouTube and I wonder if they would work better than duck clips?

Figuring out how to clip is difficult... Regarding jaw clips, I've considered those but I usually just find that they mess up my clumping. I do however use fairly small ones to clip my front hair away from my face.

So I have got a new coconut oil (to my opinion the one I am using now is pure coconut oil while the previous one was not).

What I noticed is that ,besides my lower nape on the neck strands, my top layer has started to form coils/ 3A definition. Although yet my right side, which is the side that has more hair than the left, seems to not want to curl. Its the side I have bangs if that is relevant.

Oh also what can I tell to my stylist according to my bangs? I want to have bangs but because my hair curls towards my face from that side they get stuck on my face too much and bother the heck out of me :/

Regarding more happening in certain places, it is expected. Your hair will not behave exactly the same all over your head and you most likely have slightly different damage in certain areas, plus sleep more on one side etc. Just give it time. If there is any persistent large differences once your hair has stabilized its curl pattern, then you'd might consider doing something more about it but for now I would honestly just focus on getting to know your hair and figure out what works and what doesn't.

Regarding frizz, there will always be some. On that level I would say that you'd better just accept it. Most people won't notice it anyway. If it gets worse during the day, consider applying a bit extra gel in the area.
