Default Climate Differences

So I live where it is usually very dry, and I have a routine down for my hair that eliminates frizz etc.

I am going to Mexico for a week, and when I went last year, I had to have so much Gel in my hair that it literally was crunchy the whole time. Otherwise I had frizzy cotton ball head hair.

Do you have any suggestions on what products or methods I can use to fight cotton ball hair? More moisture? Leave in conditioner? (recs?) I co wash with Moisture Milks, use Moisture maniac, don't use a leave in right now, have been using totally twisted gel and kms curl control creme. This works in my dry climate. I have some SMU which the stronger hold may be required, so I can take that, - what else?
