Protein - Hair Likes or Doesn't? And Over-conditioning

So the conditioner with protein that I ordered arrived today (Schwarzkopf Gliss Ultimate Volume Conditioner 200ml Repair & Volume Conditioner).

I've been having problems with what I THINK may be over conditioning, using my sulphate/silicone free shampoo helped (Creme of nature argan), and my hair seemed to be happy with an overnight (13 hour) Coconut oil pre-poo. I'm thinking that using the shampoo helped to temporarily get rid of my over-moisturisation.

I have also been directed towards trying some protein, hence my ordering the conditioner.

So, today I CO'd with my Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture (which I use as my co-wash), Then R/O with my Schwarzkopf Gliss which I combed through/detangled and added a very small blob of Tresemme as a leave in (which I also combed through, I'd read that adding some leave-in helps frizz which I suffer from, particularly in the crown area).

I put my boots pink curl creme into soaking wet hair, and combed through (as part of my base-coat i.e. the supersoaker method which I've found is helping with my clumps), then I added my boots blue/purple gel (I usually use Umberto Gianini scrunching jelly but feel I need more hold, and although i;ve increased the amount of prodcuts i'm using to a small golf ball size, I think my hair can take more, I never really have any crunch to scrunch out), then I soaked quickly under the shower as for my supersoaker routine, didn;t scrunch a drop of water out just plopped and have let it airdry.

Now here comes the bit where i'm stumped, once the new protein conditioner had been on my head for a bit my hair felt firmer/drier/stiffer when I rinsed it out, but kind of in a good way, like it had some structure to it, and my clumps when wet looked like they were going to be my best yet, however now it is dry is has gone super soft and fluffy again, so fluffy/frizzy that it has lost all definitions and LOOKS dry. But how can it be dry? It is super-soft.

Have I somehow managed to over-moisturise again, or is this an "I HATE PROTEIN" reaction from my hair?
  • Hair Density = thick
  • Hair Texture = I THINK it might be coarse, TMI maybe but someone on here told me to compare a few strands on my head to the hair of my lady parts (as the hair there is usually coarse), and my head hair was just as thick/wide, if not more so, so i'm guessing coarse?
  • Porosity = I'm not sure, it takes 4 - 6 hours to air dry and takes a while to get wet so although i;d thought it would be more porous as I think it is coarse, now i'm thinking it might not be porous after all

Any one who could diagnose my issue please help, I'm trying so hard to get a decent routine. I think the best my hair has looked so far is when I pre-pooed and sulphate/silicone free shampooed, then conditioned (R/O) with my Tresemme and no leave in, but I still need more hold and my curl/bounce/definition hasn't come back yet from what i'm presuming is over-conditioning.

My hair doesn't feel mushy, and I haven;t noticed any change in elasticity, just really fluffy, light, frizzy, puffy/poofy and curl is/has dropped out to just kind of waves?

I think im 2C (with a mix of 2B, and maybe some slight 3A very occasionally), I'm bordering between wavy and botticelli curls), hair is naturally VERY dark, my curls are dropping out to barely a 2B at the moment!

Thank you!

I'm thinking perhaps my hair isn't fond of LI, might be that it pushes it over the edge?

So if this is the case, do I need to rely on my products for frizz management?
I would give the protein more time to show more improvements, it can't hurt to skip the tresemme next time you're right, or you could try doing a full on protein treatment if you want to keep the leave in. Look for a treatment with hydrolyzed proteins in it so they're small enough to enter the hair.

If you are on a computer and can see my signature, the iagirl's one listed is one I make myself with unflavored gelatin- I am in love with that recipe. The recipe can be found at http://www.science-yhairblog.blogspo...-projects.html. The recipe requires scrolling down the page that opens up.

Right, thanks lolo918, maybe it's time I ordered some gelatine sheets (it is hard to find powder here in the UK) and give a modified, lower protein version a go.

If however my hair hates it, what can I do to bring it back from the brink?

And, should I condition or LI or DT after? What would you recommend I try for my hair? I guess I can always condition more, but if I conditioned it too much after it would ruin the point of the whole thing, so i'm guessing less in more and baby step with moisture after?
Condition it. I used sheets as well but mine went solid before I can even use it. I weighted them to get the same amount as the recipe.

Mrs.Pidge I condition or not based on how stiff my hair feels when I apply the treatment or how stiff it is when I rinse. I have added conditioner before I rinsed bc my hair felt tangly. I've also not conditioned bc my hair felt ok. I use conditioner to style though so more often than not I just wait until I style to apply conditioner- especially so when I am cowashing instead of using my shampoo.

I am able to keep my mixture liquidy but the one time I heard of it going solid the person didn't take the boiling water off the burner before mixing. I wish I could be of better help about the sheets but I've only ever seen them on t.v. = (

My process is: I put the gelatin in a measuring cup and pour the water over, stir to mix. I put the other ingredients into a hair dye applicator bottle then pour the smooth gelatin/water mix into there. I add conditioner or yogurt, honey, and sometimes aloe vera juice to the base ingredients.
