Wen cleanser and a good hairgel??

What is a good drugstore brand hair gel that will give me definition, cut my frizz and not leave me crunchy looking??

Also, I've been using Wen cleanser for the last couple of weeks. It seems like it's leaving my hair dirty or something. It feels like something heavy or greasy is in my hair even after I rinse good. Have any of you tried Wen and experienced that?
Type 2B hair
As far as the gel goes, with most of them the crunch goes away when you scrunch your curls once they're dry. Have you tried that?
2c/3a, dense, fairly coarse, normal porosity and elasticity, bsl curly, WL wet
Low poo: Giovanni 50 50
Co-wash: down under naturals, tresume naturals
RO: AOHR
LI: Giovanni Direct, Desert Essence curl cream
Stylers: kccc, HE smu, brhg
Oils: coconut, argan or evoo
What about flakes?

I used Oiudad(spelling?) Climate control gel for the longest but I started getting visible white flakes in my hair after I scrunched.

Wen is a curiosity to me because you're cowashing essentially, but I believe their cowashes have silicones? I don't see how you're not getting buildup.

I'd try a clarifying shampoo to start over. If you think you benefit from cowashing there's lots of others you can try... I believe there's a thread on it going right now. I have CJ Daily Fix which is a cleansing conditioner (more cleansing than other cowashes) and it's awesome. The key is to go silicone-free if you're on a cowashing routine. Alternately, you can use cones and cowash but you'll have to incorporate a low-poo regularly.

Most CG gels that I've tried don't flake on me including O Climate Control gel. If you have buildup that may be causing the flaking. I also want to say that I don't need to SOTC with OCC if I remember correctly (haven't used it in a little while).
fine - normal porosity*?- medium density - normal elasticity. Hard water. SoCal.
*Used to be low-porosity, but I lightened my hair 1-2 shades, so I may be normal-porosity now.

New climate! Current favorites:
Low-poo: CJ Gentle Cleansing Shampoo, Giovanni SaS
RO: V05 Kiwi Lime
Styler: UFD CM (old formula), FSG + CNPF
PT: CJ Repair Me, IAgirl's gelatine

Experimenting with: JC Confident Coils, JC Rockin Ringlets, CJ CIAB, gelatin gel

iherb discount code: CFN646
I haven't used that gel, but I agree that I've only gotten flakes when there was buildup on my hair.

I'm a die hard gel girl. It works well for my hair type since I need strong hold. I love LA Looks Sports Gel since going CG. It's strong enough to use on it's own.

I've also had a lot of luck throughout the years layering that mentioned Ouidad Heat and Humidity Gel (Great stuff. Thin, creates great slip and soft to the touch curls) and Nexxus Extra Gel (for stronger hold). I never experienced flakes or build up.

I'm not sure if the Ouidad gel is CG but the Nexxus one is.

I've also really enjoyed Pantene and Tresemme gels.

I've been using WEN just shy of a year and love it. I use less than half of what is recommended for my hair length and haven't had a problem. WEN doesn't get a lot of love on NC but I think it's underrated here. Try it again maybe using less or rinse while massaging your scalp. You already have the bottle, start experimenting.

In the end it might not be right for your hair and scalp. Before WEN I though I just couldn't cowash. I have tried no-poo, daily fix, and drugstore. No-poo was the worst for me, I ended up with a greasy patch at my nape that hurt when I moved my hair around. Daily fix was alright but I had to use a conditioner as well, my hair stopped looking nice and I shampooed every other wash till the end of the bottle. Drugstores( VO5, suave and the like) gave me build up, I felt like they never washed off my scalp plus I also needed conditioner after.
