Question about soft hood dryer if you have one

Is this better than a diffuser? Does it make a difference in how well your curls set compared with a diffuser?

I can't buy a hard hood dryer because I don't have the space for it or a proper place to set it up in terms of height.

I'm cross posting this in the products section. Thanks for any responses!
2/c and some 3A. Modified CG.
Protein sensitive
Highly porous. Color over grey.
Best 1st day method: Super Soaker
Conditioners: Curl Junkie Beauticurls Strengthening Conditioner,
Deep condish: Curl Junkie Curl Rehab
Stylers: Mix Curls in a Bottle into everything for shine. Terrible pj
Sometimes try roller sets - classic glamor but I prefer my curls.
Every day is a gift
I get more volume and curl... also some frizz by actually diffusing (I follow veronica meza's way more or less) but I'm very impatient and it would take 45min-1 hour to get my hair fully dry by diffusing. That's why I bought the softhood because I can put it on and do something else.
2BC/f/II. fine - low/normal porosity - medium density - normal elasticity.

Currently using:
Cowash: Cure Care diluted with water 1:1
RO: Cure Care, V05 Kiwi Lime
Styler: UFD CM (old formula), FSG + CNPF
PT: IAgirl's gelatine

Experimenting with: CeraVe Foaming as low-poo, gelatin gel

light moisture, hydrolized protein, jelly stylers
guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, sulfates
Neutral on cones.

iherb discount code: CFN646
If I try plopping my hair into it and sitting upright, my hair doesn't stay put and some always falls out. Also it squishes my hair to my scalp more (and I need volume). So I use mine in non traditional ways. Sometimes I use it inside out like a diffuser. I get a softer, looser wave when I do that. Sometimes I use it before diffusing, turn my head upside down into it, just to get out some of the initial moisture.

Either way it is gentler than a diffuser. Most people report that it takes longer. I find that my curls aren't as strong with it. But it does cut down on frizz compared to a diffuser (IMO). Maybe using a bit of both is the ideal compromise.
Thanks Naturecat. My hair is too short to plop.

Your input was very helpful. I think I will actually squelch my inner pj and not buy one of these.

Most people seem to have good luck with using it, though some are like me. However, not to tempt your inner PJ too much, I got mine for I think less than $5 at Sally's. They're also possibly more convenient for traveling than a diffuser (since they're soft there is more flexibility for shoving it into your suitcase).

There was a thread about this called this thing is amazing or something like that within the past few weeks. A search should bring it up. Many people chimed in on that thread, so that may help give you a broader spectrum.

Edit: Here is the thread This thing. Is AMAZING!!!
