Please help? :)

Hi everyone,
I've been doing the CG method for about two months now and it's going really well, really pleased with it so far!
However, I have AWFUL dandruff, or should I say itchy/flakey/scabby scalp. It's truly driving me insane. I've tried so many CG friendly 'suggestions' and none of them work. Before going CG I had the same issue, and have only ever found ONE shampoo that ever worked, amazing stuff, and I am planning on using it again because I can't deal with the scabby itchy mess anymore. However, it is definitely not CG friendly Could someone please have a look at these ingredients and tell me how bad they actually are? It's called
L'Oreal Elvive Active Selenium intense anti dandruff shampoo

(Hmm, it's refusing to go smaller...lol... sorry)
Thanks all

What is the medical diagnosis for your scalp condition? What have you already tried? Are you using any oils or butters rich in oleic, stearic or palmitic acid?

Most shampoos marketed for'dandruff' are formulated for seborrhoeic dermatitis (SD), they tend to contain harsh sulphate surfactants in order to strip away the sebum (feeds the malassezia yeast, acts as a direct irritant). They often also contain an ingredient to control the yeast population (eg. zinc, selenium).

Given you have broken skin/ scabbing it would be very wise to consult a qualified doctor, you may have a skin infection or more than one dermatological condition present (SD and irritant contact dermatitis, for example).

Lastly overhaul your diet making it as anti inflammatory and nutrient dense as possible, avoiding scratching as this is pro inflammatory and you can get stuck in the 'itch-scratch cycle'.

I've never been to the doctor's about it.. I just figured it was pretty common.. my ex had the exact same thing and that shampoo is all that worked for him, too.
I never used to use anything at all in my hair, literally just wash, condition the ends and then straighten, with no other products.
Now I do a coconut oil and shea butter treatment once a fortnight. Also tried doing a sugar scrub, which didn't help. Did a sea salt scrub, which felt SO good (and painful) whilst using, and felt brilliant for a day or so after, but then back to itchy horrible!

The fact the two of you had the same condition could indicate something that you passed between you, like some fungal and bacterial infections.
