To those who get devacuts, how often do you get them?

My stylist always says my cut should last 3 months, but by week 8 it looks like crap. Last time I waited 3 months but that was only bc I was out of town for a family emergency. Does anyone else get their devacut every 8 weeks?
I generally get 5-6 months out of my cut.

Hmmm...maybe I should try a new stylist. I have long hair-I have A LOT of hair, but the strands are thin and go crazy after 8 weeks. Maybe I just have mean hair!!
What are your hair properties? I'm a 2c/3a with thin strands and high porosity. I'm wondering if that's the difference. Maybe you guys have stronger texture or stronger/thicker strands?
3a with easily pulled out curls, thin strands, lots of hair.

Oh man! It sounds like I need to start looking for a new devacutter!
Do you have multiple curl patterns? I don't get Deva cuts, but I do have multiple curl patterns. The less curly parts always grow out longer than the curlier parts at a faster rate. That leaves things looking scraggly sooner than I want it to (but I've never expected even close to perfection, guess I'm just a slob that way ).

I haven't quite found the right way to deal with it, excepting cutting the straight hairs at the nape of my neck shorter than everything else.

I've always wondered if a Deva cut would be right for me with all my multiple patterns and textures, but now I'm still not so sure. I'm still looking for its optimal length - the longer it gets, the more tightly curled the ends get. I keep hoping that it will reach some length where it looks reasonable, but I always end up getting it cut, haha!

Mine usually last 3-4 months. Depending on whether or not I'm bored with it after a while. =)

in addition to the cut, the products are also very important, probably a 50-50.

With my first Deva stylist, 8 weeks tops. But I've found since that he wasn't all that great, because my stylist now told me I could go 3-4 months. I did have her cut again after 8 weeks, but that was really because I knew I was going to be busy in 3/4 months and might not have the time for an appointment. The cut itself still looked good. So it might be worth trying another stylist. A good Deva cut should last longer than a normal cut.
3a/b, F, normal porosity

Wash with either Suave Tropical Coconut, As I Am, or CJ Daily Fix
Condition with STC or Yes to Blueberries and detangle with Denman, rinse very lightly (baptismal rinse)
Add LAL gel, either Sport or Wet Look, scrunch with flour sack towel, and plop
Diffuse 5 minutes, then air dry
My hair is like Spiralham's-I have at least two curl patterns. The underside is almost straight and then bam, the rest is 2c/3a. I wish my hair would choose one texture or the other. Perhaps that's why I need a cut more often...the curls get scraggly and the straight part sticks out even though that's not the case after a cut (i.e., yes, she purposely cuts the underside shorter to appear the same length as my curls).

I've learned to manage the straight part - it needs to be cut *at least* 1.5-2 inches shorter than the rest of my hair. *Not* at the same length as the rest of my curls - then it just sticks out faster since the curls continue to spiral as they grow but the straight part doesn't. It has to be noticeably shorter. When I started seeing my new stylist, she was impressed at how straight that part is. But I was doing that anyway before I went CG.

I also have this great little patch in the center of the back of my head on the right side that is more 2a, and coarse! - that's the part that's bugging me right now. It takes up product differently, and the spiral is super lazy so these little feathered ends stick out next to the 2c spirals. And there's a finer 2a-ish part right above and around my left ear, but under the curliest part of my canopy (2b/3a - the only place I get root curl is at my bangs and nothing blends together). I tuck that back behind my ear almost all the time right now. Nothing is uniform on my head, no matter the cut, so maybe I'm better off not wasting even more $$ on a curly cut.

Aren't I supposed to love my natural texture anyway? I guess even close family members that we love bug us sometimes. I guess my hair just has a lot of character, hah!

I like my new stylist - she has curly hair too and that makes a world of difference to me - but I don't think she still quite believes me when I show her all my multiple patterns (she thought everything would even out with the right cut). So we'll see what happens the next time I go in. I'm growing it a little to see what that 2a piece in the back does the longer it gets, as I seem to want to cut it before it makes the next turn.

I hear ya, Spiralham! My stylist cuts the straight underside an inch or two shorter than the rest of my hair. I like that it's the same length, but I hate that it's still noticeable. It looks like I straightened just that patch. Why I would do that is beyond me, but I wish it would blend in better. :/ oh well-at least it's not sticking out like a tail, which is what my previous stylist called it.
Hahaha, they never really blend in, do they! I really cut mine shorter, so you really can't see that little shelf of stringy straight hair sticking out below. Now everything is long enough that I can finally tuck the ends up into my ponytail when I wear one. I still love the idea of shorter hair, but I know that little group at the nape of my neck would be hard to deal with.

The hardest part about the straight hairs is that they have just enough bend in them to curl around the sides of my neck. Then you can notice them. I guess you can't win 'em all

Oh no, my stylist cuts the straight hair so it falls to the same length as my curls. Unfortunately, that portion is thick enough that it doesn't always hide under my curls.:/
I have never hesitated to call and go back if the straight parts are sticking out, to get them cut again so that it's fixed...

But now I just get them cut extra short.
rbb likes this.
