Default Very, very odd and unwelcome behavior

When I scrunch out any water from my hair in the shower, even scrunching in product, it looks like weird separated chunks with all the hairs separate, not curling, not waving, and not doing anything but looking all weird like that. I really have to get it covered in leave-in or something before it stops looking strange, but it doesn't have very nice clumps (not like it had ANYTHING in the previous stage). My hair's never done that before...anybody know what it is? Do I need more moisture or less or more of a certain ingredient?

I am so confused. I wanna try using gel soon, but I don't even know how to deal with my usual products on this strangeness.

Hm, photos?

Lately I've been getting separated chunks with a ton of random, misbehaving hairs all over the place - they don't really attach to any clump, they don't really look like they want to curl, they just hang out on their own. Sort of like wet frizzies off the big clumps, I guess. If that makes sense.

Anything like that?

If that's the case, I have yet to find a solution.

Kinda like that, 'cept...hmmm, this is hard to describe...my hair splits into a couple big chunks that look like dry, wobbly rectangles, and they're all split up within - the hairs look like they don't like each other. Not even frizzy, because it's more...more like if you were to split wood a bunch of times? Do I have splinter hair?!
Well, maybe I'll go with the usual reason people cite for hair being weird and schedule a hair cut. This is quite odd!

If it's what I'm picturing, I get that too sometimes. The splintered board was a perfect way to describe it. Lately it helps if I run more water through my hair till it's really saturated and then don't touch it until I scrunch in conditioner (more than I usually put in). Then I scrunch in products being really gentle. My hair doesn't like to be touched much or it starts frizzing out and going stringy straight. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hooray, somebody else has it, too! Thanks for the advice; I think I'll use my extra conditioning needs as an excuse to buy a new leave-in. Thanks again!

Ah, the splintered board image works! That sounds a bit like what I think I'm having, just a better way to describe it. I've decided that perhaps my hair is really dry. It's super dry in my apartment and I have all the other non-hair related symptoms of it being so, so why pretend my hair would somehow be immune to it? Going with that theory, I plan to do the same as you and use it as an excuse to buy some new conditioner.

Yeah, dryness is a killer; ain't it? Idaho sucks the moisture out of my hair so badly. I think I'll join the party and grab some more conditioner too.

I was too lazy to condition, plop, diffuse today (I never, ever get 2nd day hair, so the curls require a rewetting and conditioning), so instead I finger combed my hair out (I knew I wasn't going to be in public much, so not many people would see the poof!) and I have been applying a few drops of Jessicurl's Oil Blend every now and again under the hopes that it will add some moisture to these silly locks . . .
