So recently my favourite leave-in (My DNA) has gone up really high in price and, since I'm determined not to spend outrageous money on products any more (like I did when I first started CG), I'm back to searching for a new budget leave-in.

So. Annoying.

I loved this because it smelt great, worked great and was cheap and cheerful! And now it's not . . .

I'm considering just using one of the old, cheap RO conditioners I have stocked up as a leave-in now. Used it yesterday and it worked well.

What are some products you guys have loved, but have had to stop using because they got too expensive / the price went up?
3A with some 3B thrown in. Medium porosity.

Pre-poo: Organic Virgin Coconut Oil
Low-poo: SM Coconut & Hibiscus shampoo / ElastaQP Créme Conditioning shampoo
Conditioner:
ORS Olive Oil Replenishing Conditioner
D/C: Giovanni 2chic Avocado & Olive Oil Ultra Moist Deep Moisture Mask

Leave-in: My DNA
Styler: Ouidad Climate Control Heat & Humidity

UK curly. CG since October 2013.
Aiming for WL curls (eventually)
I can't afford Shea Moisture unless I happen upon one of the BOGO sales. I like their masques, I'm meh on the conditioners and stylers, might try the low-poos if I stalk down a sale again.

The thing that led me to CG was As I Am cowash, but I can't justify the $8 a jar for that, either.

I also recently found some Schwarzkopf dt for curls mega-cheap when I begged my stylist sister to take me with her to the pro supply shop to scope out curl concoctions... happy to use it for 3.50 a jar but the original price was more like $15. >.>

2c. present color& past heat damage, fine, low-density, high porosity, happy with some protein. re-CG as of 5/2014. Wash:V05 PFS or KLS, RO: (trying to use up my stash; so it's always different!), LI: Cure Care, DT: SM Smooth & Repair Hair Masque, Style: Ecostyler Olive Oil / La Bella Lots of Curls gel
That's horrible and frustrating! I'm sorry to hear you have to find a new go to product. I absolutely hate that.

I haven't had any products necessarily went up in price. I have wanted to try some that were more expensive, but couldn't bring myself to do it because if it worked really well I couldn't be able to afford it regularly. I hate to pay more than $10 for a hair product (I'm frugal), because I go through it so much.

Conditioner: Tresemme Naturals, Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle
Co-Wash: As I Am Coconut Co-Wash
Leave in Products: As I Am Leave-In, SM Smoothie/Milk, KCKT, Giovanni Direct Leave-In
Air Dry

Looking for new products and methods to try!

@DaniGirl88 it's seriously so annoying. Finding cheap and effective products in the UK can be quite hard, but I'd finally got all my basis covered and then my leave-in falls through LOL. Just my luck.

But maybe it'll help me to use up my stash of rinse-outs I'm not so keen on. Hopefully they won't make my hair look crappy.

I get what you mean about paying more than a certain price for a product - I'm that way too. Especially after buying products like the As I Am co-wash / KCCC which were so expensive but did nothing for me. The only exception I make is the Ouidad gel (but I don't buy that all the time) and the SM shampoo. But I'm starting to steer away from the SM shampoo now and try other alternatives, because as much as I love it I can't justify spending that much on shampoo (especially when shipping is added on top!!).

It's to the point where I try to research online before going to the store.

And the thing that really frustrates me is finding something with great reviews but not being able to buy it in store. I don't want to pay for shipping and I'm extremely impatient and don't want to wait for it either! Hahahaha.

I liked Tresemme and the results I got with it, but this last bottle seems different and I think I read somewhere that they changed their ingredients. Why mess with something that works?!?! I hate that.

My guilty pleasure for expensive hair care is the CJ Argan & Olive Oil and the CJ Smoothing Lotion. I dread the day I run out of both. I'd like to repurchase, but my bank account says no.
2c-3a - coarse - normal-high porosity - high density - growing out to donate

NP/LP: KMF Whenever Conditioner/ YTCucs
RO/LI: Sevi Pumpkin Seed DC / CJ Argan & Olive Oil, KCKT, YTBbs
DT: Coconut Oil + scalp massage
OIL/STYLER: SM Elixir / KCCC
COLOR: henna, amla & indigo
For me, it was Afroveda. I supported the line when it was fairly new and the products costed much cheaper then than they are now. I also dealt with the real slow shipping too. I really did love the products that I had tried from them. However, as soon as more and more people started buying their products and they had quickly gained popularity, they then went up on their prices sharply. Afroveda was a new vendor on the scene, and their doing such a high price hike so early on, was very shocking to me. As, most new vendors don't do such. I feel that their product prices at this time, plus their shipping charges are way too high for me, to shop with them anymore. I would have loved to have continued supporting the line, but the price increases that they made, makes it too costly for me to do so.

Sorry!! I feel your pain.

I experimented with replacing my HG hard hold gel, Aquage Molding Mega Gel. But I spent soooo much money buying multitudes of less expensive products -- none of which worked. So I'm now just spending the money and buying the Aquage. I decided it's worth the price. I now use it in combination with other products so I use a little less.
@frizzinfla that's a nice compromise! I already splurge on my gel though (Ouidad), so I've resigned to go budget on all my other hair products. No more than £8 per product. I need to quell my spending, and I know thee must be a good budget leave-in out there. I'm just yet to find it!

Side note though: Using my Faith in Nature RO as a leave-in these past few wash days is really working well, so I'm thinking I may just use that!

Also to save money, I have never used an "official" leave-in. Always a small amount of regular conditioner (with good ingredients) on very wet hair. Leave ins seem costly and filled with water so I kinda just make my own :-)
