Bare Hair

Sooo, just wondering…. I remember using no product on my hair once, towel blotting it dry but no manipulation otherwise and thinking this isn't too terrible. Not as much frizz as I thought there would be, waves were noticeable even though overall curl pattern was looser, and not bad density either (less product = fluffier hair). I'd been CG for maybe 2 or 3 months. This was a few months ago, and I haven't seen my hair untreated since. But was pleasantly surprised at the difference at my plain hair after spending some time CG vs pre CG.
Does anyone leave their hair untreated from time to time?

Baby fine brown hair, high porosity
No poo: AVG mixed with glycerin
Stylers: SS CEJ, gelatin hair gel, SS FHG
Treatments: rosemary and chamomile tea rinse, henna, hydrogen peroxide
IA Girl's PT, SS PT
Homemake hair products.
No product as in no styler or not even conditioner and just water washing? I've done the first, but my hair was too fluffy. I really can't do conditioner styling. I need something to tame my coarse hair. I can imagine it works real well with fine haired ladies and I think most of them who found success in co-styling have fine hair.

Mine's a train wreck if I leave it. One night last week I did a dt and just left it to dry afterwards (knowing I'd have to wet and style the next morning as I can't get second day hair). It was an utter and complete mess, truly hideous. Frizz like you wouldn't believe.

Oh, I mean wash and condition, then air dry. I suppose what one washes with can greatly influence the results however. I was also somewhat curious because products and shampoo is a relatively recent development…. what did our curly haired ancestors do throughout the ages? They lived with less environmental pollution and maybe the hair was naturally less damaged as a result. I wonder also if the weather has anything to do with the final result. I'm curious though, perhaps if I left my hair untreated from time to time I can better gauge what it needs (clarify, chelation, moisture, protein, etc). Sometimes all the products I put on make it difficult to tell.
I have been curious of that as well, but even with much healthier hair now, so far, no luck. Even without or after clarifying/chelating/deep(er) treatment.

I haven't tried 2 conditioners I've got in my stash for that purpose, though, and they seem to have good ingredients that might help me to achieve co-styling. But my guess would be I will have to at least seal with some oil, and even then, my hair might go a bit too limp for my taste.
