I need harsh words.

My friend straightened my hair for me a few days ago and I loved the way it looked. (pictures in my fotki!)

So...I need someone to remind me, in the harshest words possible, how damaging it would be to straighten my hair often.
For I know that my Redeemer lives,
And He shall stand at last on the earth;
And after my skin is destroyed, this I know,
That in my flesh I shall see God,
Whom I shall see for myself,
And my eyes shall behold, and not another.
How my heart yearns within me!

your curly hair is just stunning.. dont ruin it by straightening!
yes i agree 2 , your curly hair is so pretty , straightening it alot will just ruin the curls . some curlies have straightened and have lost their curls.

You have the hair of my dreams when it's curly. Don't keep straightening it or after a while whether it's straight or curly, it will start looking pretty damaged and nasty. It won't curl properly, and even when straight, it will be frizzy. Everyone will be able to tell that you straightened. When you have curls as nice as yours, don't kill them!

As a side note, how do you finger curl? Whenever I try to curl my hair around my finger, it rebels and frizzes. How do get yours so perfect? Sorry to bug you, but gosh it's beautiful!

Just say no! Your hair looks gorgeous and healthy curly. I can understand liking a change, but your hair will not flourish like it is when it's curly.

NO! NO! NO! Bad friend!

Or, we'll make a deal. You give me your lovely, uniform, frizz free curls, and then we can talk about allowing you to straighten.

I feel your pain Heather! It is such a dilemma, I had TR straightening a few years ago, and it looked and felt absolutely gorgeously beautiful, and I was going to keep doing it til the day I die! But ooooh the damage! Ok, it looked and felt lush and shiny, but that damage was sneaky! It has taken 2 years or more for it to stop breaking.

I have really coarse and frizzy hair too, I WISH I could get mine all spirally like yours! You have the hair that dreams are made of! LOVE it!

Not to interrupt the flat-iron bashing, but I think it's OK to do moderate straightening. Not on my 3B hair, which doesn't really straighten, but on your nice cooperative 3A hair, why not. If it's once in a while, and you use protective silicone & protein products first & deep condition after, I say enjoy your lucky versality. My 3A sister straightens about once per week & her hair remains happy & healthy.

I also think its ok to straighten once in a while. It can be nice for a change. And in my case, way easier to manage. But I agree with everyone else on the fact that your curly hair is absolutely beautiful! I like it better.

It is nice to do every once in a while, we all need a change of pace sometimes. So if it makes you happy, then do it, but protect your hair so you won't damage it. Btw really like the picture of your hair, with the natural curl pattern, I think it is the first pic, sssooooo pretty, I am jealous.
...straighten again and you shall suffer horrible, nasty consquences! you have the most gorgeous, defined, frizz free curls i have ever seen! FABULOUS!! how do you get them so nice?

politics is like me and my buddy going hippo hunting. we shoot a hippo and it falls on us. now, instead of using our joint effort of pushing the hippo off of us, we arue for 5 1/2 years on who's idea it was in the first place to go hippo hunting.
I wish so much that my hair looked like yours curly. It looks so much better curly than straight.
"Once in a while" is fine, I do it myself but since you asked for "harsh words" and "a picture is worth a thousand words", here's what can happen to your hair if you were to do it "often" :

Ooops...its taked me a long time to reply. (College is busy!)

Thanks for all the words of encouragement, and in response to the questions about how I get my hair to look like it does, here is my routine:

I co-wash every few days with one of the Suave naturals conditioners and shampoo once a week or so with Creme of Nature Detangling Conditioning Shampoo. Usually, for my rinse-out I use Creme of Nature Nourishing Conditioner (I'm in love with it!) and sometimes I'll use Aussie 3MM. While most people use it as their rinse-out, I used the Back to Basics Pomegranate Conditioner as my leave-in...then I use some honey, LOOB, and HESMU. If I don't twirl my hair, I get smaller, curlier curls. If I do twirl, I get bigger, enlongated curls. Right now, I twirl my hair every day because it helps hide my bad ends, but I'm getting those cut off (and then some) next week.

I think I just may have spilled my entire curl life story. Ooopsie.
For I know that my Redeemer lives,
And He shall stand at last on the earth;
And after my skin is destroyed, this I know,
That in my flesh I shall see God,
Whom I shall see for myself,
And my eyes shall behold, and not another.
How my heart yearns within me!
