Best Conditioner for Winter 3C

Hi Curlies

It's been forever since I've been on here! I've been transitioning from BAD heat damage for 10 months now and loving it. When I started, it was in March nearing Spring so I haven't really had any experience with curls in the winter time. I'm noticing that my normal conditioners and creams aren't doing so great. I currently use Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter conditioner and Giovanni 50:50 leave in. Sometimes I'll use the Shea Moisture Cocounut and Hibiscus curl cream or Cantu Shea Butter cream as well with Kinky Curly Curling Custard as my gel. Sometimes the combination of the Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter conditioner as a rinse-out, then Giovanni Direct Leave In and the gel work wonderfully. Other times my hair still gets dry throughout the day. Maybe it's just about technique but I'm open to suggestions for what you girls use for your 3C hair in the winter. My hair is medium-coarse and very low porosity at the root and medium-high at the ends due to damage.

Thanks!
Curl Type: mix of 3B and 3C
Porosity: Low on all new growth, medium-high toward end from heat damage
Texture: Coarse (medium)
Kinking Present (mostly subtle and gradual only have macro in the really coarse areas)
Length: A little below shoulder length curly and armpit length when stretched.

Shampoo: Shea Moisture Community Commerce Intensive Hydration

Conditioner: RO Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Restorative

Leave-In: Giovanni Direct Leave-In
Gel: Kinky Curly Curling Custard
If I recall correctly, I think the direct leave-in, and the curling custard are higher in humectants? If your hair is sensitive to dew points and the ones in your area go either super low or super high that may be the culprit behind the dryness. To tell dew points I always go to the website: Dew Point Calculator and just look up the humidity information at www.weather.com. You may need a sealer over top of those two items so that the moisture stays in your hair, or switch to products with more sealing power.

I'm glad you're loving your curls! That is quite a transformation to be a 3C from where you started when you first got here if I remember correctly!

CG since November 2013.

Pre-Poo: infrequent now, Coconut Oil overnight
Shampoo: Curls unleashed/for occasional sulfate wash when needed, everlasting sunshine.
Conditioner: Suave Naturals Everlasting Sunshine and GVP's conditioning balm.
Styler: iagirl's flaxseed curl cream or gelatin gel/conditioner mix. <3
PT: iagirl's gelatin treatment 3-4 times a month, with conditioner/honey/avj
Thank you! You are absolutely correct and I didn't even think about that. I will definitely try that. Also, yes a very big difference in curl type from the beginning! My hair looked pretty much 3A when I first wore it curly and then went to 3B for a while. Now, I'm seeing a ton of 3C and it's super different to work with but I loooove it! I've been giving myself little trims every now and then to keep the growth moving. I also just got the Shea Moisture Intensive Hydration conditioner and it is awesome! I re-read the curly girl book to see what it says for my new curl type and she basically just recommends a lot of moisture and hydration. Thanks so much for your help!
