This is fantastic! I can't wait to show my girls. I've always loved my hair and it's something my girls have learned too. They both have wavy hair and mine is more of a 3b. Sometimes it is what they have dawned "crazy hair" but we have fun with that too. There is far too much for them to face in life and have to deal with self image issues as well. At least we've got the hair thing covered.
This ad was mentioned on my local news this morning. Just got to check it out and I liked it. Growing up I wasted so much emotion on my hair and that is just sad. It would have been awesome to have a hair mentor. I am all for anything that promotes natural, healthy hair so I'm all for this campaign.

My only issues with it are that several of the mothers appear to have fake curling-iron-curls. And the assumption that mothers of curly-haired girls have curly hair (my mother is a straighty).

But yeah, I thought it was touching. And the little girls were soooo cute!

Also LOL @ 0:31 because that's what I also said to myself and I eventually plucked 40% of my hair almost chronically. But I love this video, especially at the end, aww so touching!

I don't think Dove makes the best products for curly hair. However I really liked that commercial! So sweet.

Loved the commercial and got kind of teary. The decades I wasted hating my hair and trying to change it. I wish when I was young there would have been ads like this and all the print ads loaded with curlies that we see today. And I wish there would have been an NC.com too!

Thought that was a gorgeous commercial and I love how it showed so many different types of curls and didn't just focus on a certain area. Really well done and a great way to help embrace the uniqueness of people's hair and show that 'different' doesn't always mean 'bad'

Loved that commercial. It's awesome.

I'm definitely a "curly" 2c. Sometimes curly and sometimes just wavy upper layer with a ringlety under layer. My hair has been thick and coarse since birth. Strawberry blonde in color that can and does change depending on the type and amount of light.

All in all, I'm happy with my hair type but almost for sure think yours is prettier.
That was very sweet. I felt just like them when I was a kid, got teased, etc. I was called 'ramen noodle head' or told it looked like I put my finger in an electric outlet. Lol. This is a beautiful thing to see. I know it'll help younger AND older girls feel special if they see it.
Someone posted this on Facebook yesterday and I almost teared up. It was an amazing video to watch. I just wish it was around sooner!

interesting commercial. my mom had pin-straight hair yet she instinctively knew how to take care of my hair and she and my dad always told me i had beautiful hair. (my siblings and close cousins all had straight hair. 2 of my brothers, younger than me, became curly-haired when they hit their teens).

however, i hit those preteen and teen years and all i saw was Seventeen magazine models with straight hair, print and tv ads with straight hair, stylists who only knew what to do with straight hair (with the exception of 2 in my young adult years). then i married my ex who hates curly hair of any pattern......

it wasn't that i did not like my hair, i didn't know how to care for it as a teen, adult. so, coupled with the media, and stylists with no knowledge, there was no information around about curly hair.

as a young adult i did wish my hair was curly (at that point i only thought it was somewhat wavy in a bad way) but did not know what to do with my hair and i did envy the handful of women i'd see with beautiful curls. so then it became not that i wanted straight hair, i wanted to figure out what to do with my hair. and this in the time of sulfate-only shampoos.

first concrete info/help i got was when i went for a haircut at vidal sassoon in the mid 80s -- the man who cut my hair cut it in layers, did a protein treatment, told me never to blow dry my hair, never to brush my hair, and not to touch it while it was drying. so, that was huge! unfortunately he was from their london office and i never found anyone like him til i found carlos flores 9 years ago. but, i had all those very helpful tips to start with while trying to work with sulfate shampoos and clueless stylists.

not only do i feel my daughter has benefited from my explorations with hair, so hopefully have my granddaughters who have beautiful 3c hair! hope they keep loving their hair.

The only thing I worry about is this commercial inadvertently convincing the viewing audience that this is just the next gimmick to boost sales, that curly or natural hair is just a fad that will go away sooner than it came about.

What a wonderful commercial! I am so thankful that my little ones are growing up surrounded not only by family and friends who love their curls and kinks but also a culture that is more and more embracing of them as well. Thanks for sharing this Spiderlashes!

I'm hooked to the song.

Very touching. I had a hard time not to cry. I really loved it especially the little wavy blonde girl.(the girl that tried to straigten her hair with her fingers) I recognized myself in her.

Really touching, I almost cried. Growing up my mom would blow dry my hair just so I wouldn't run around with wet hair. She didn't havebad intentions but when i hit my teens i had no idea what to do with it (she stopped blow drying it cause i was grown up?) so i ended up disliking how it looked, it was never sleek and shiny and straight. Even when we went to the salon the blowout never lasted, it always curled up at the ends. Needless to say i didn't feel good about it until i found this website and started experimenting. It's sad but true that a lot of us have an emotional connection to our hair and what it means to us as girls/women.

I liked the Dove commercial because it gives exposure to curly hair. It may cause other companies to increase representation of curly hair which may also lead to people becoming more accepting and comfortable with various hair types! Regardless, we Curly/Kinky/Coily haired individuals should love our hair and wear it proudly...You are your best advertisement of the beauty in being different!

Check out my natural hair videos where I talk about the importance of self-love and hair care.
