What made conditioner only styling work for me.

I don't have any pics at the moment, but the results also gave me root volume because the solution to my stiff hair was so simple: overnight plopping.
As a background, I've almost always used conditioner only styling and just chosen to ignore the first-day stiffness. I'm far too lazy to use gel most of the time, especially since a lot of gels/curl shapers don't work with my favorite conditioners (ex: Ecostyler) or my hair in general (ex: SM). If I could go product-less, I would, but then the frizz...

My current routine is co-wash, RO + detangle, baptism rinse (when did this method get a name?), and then plop.

When I wake up, my hair is almost always still damp, but when it dries it's pretty soft as far as my coarse hair goes. This strategy has been a life saver since I started showering at night, so I wanted to share it with anyone trying to make conditioner-only styling work for them.

I think the results have something to do with the t-shirt soaking up the extra product that while useful in encouraging clumps, would normally make the hair stiff after drying.

How do you do this without making your hair smell? I did this once and my hair smelled like mildew in the morning and I had to wash it.
2c-3a - med-coarse - normal-high porosity - high density

I've only ever done it with two conditioners (both of which are only found in Japan). Which conditioners are you using to do this?

Any smell (of conditioner) goes away as soon as the hair dries for me.

I used to do this, rinsing out the rinse out cond for a quick few seconds and leaving most of it in. I need to start doing that again.
3a/b medium/coarse combo(w/some fine strands), normal porosity, normal elasticity(strong)
Komaza analysis 2015: medium to coarse combo(some fine strands), normal porosity, strong elasticity, healthy hair
Goosefootprints 2013: moderately coarse with some medium; low porosity at roots, normal thru shaft, porous ends, normal elasticity
Sorry I didn't see your question to my reply. It wasn't the conditioner that smelled, it was more the wetness held in that made the mildew smell. I used my buff, and it's pretty breathable. Maybe it was the wrong material to use?
