Styling hair wet vs. damp?!?

I do conditioner only styling and usually use garnier fructis sleek and shine leave in conditioner which has always worked well for me. sometimes i also add in some hello hydration. i noticed whenever i put in my leave in on very wet/soaking wet hair, my hair comes out feeling much softer. when i put it into damp hair my hair tends to feel pretty dry, even when using the same products that i use on very wet hair. i was wondering if anyone knows why this is? bc i like styling on damp hair since i hate the feeling of dripping wet hair on me but i dont like my hair feeling so dry!
thanks!!
Same! I used to wash/co-wash my hair in the shower, plop, spritz with water and then apply my products to my hair while damp. This left it feeling dry, and I got way too much volume (and a lot of frizz). Now I apply everything in the shower immediately after co-washing to soaking wet hair, then scrunch out as much water as I can. It drips for a little bit, but it looks and feels so much better after!

As for why, my guess is just that there's more water there to hold in the moisture? Since water is moisture, it's better the wetter your hair is. I could be wrong, but that's my guess!

hmm that makes a lot of sense! thank you! but after you have applied your product to soaking wet hair and then squeeze out as much water as you can, doesn't some of the product come out when you squeeze out the water? or does the product remain in your hair? i like this idea i am just afraid that squeezing out the water would take some of the product out
I would imagine some might come out, but from the amounts I have coming out at the next co-wash, it doesn't seem to take out very much. If anything most of it that I scrunch goes right back into my hand, and if I'm seeing a lot of product, I'll smooth it back on.

Interesting thread. I normally style my hair when it's soaking dripping wet. However, my first day hair is never as great as my second day hair. Sure, there is almost no frizz, but I'm lacking in curls. My hair looks more wavy than anything. On the second day, I re-wet my hair with a spray bottle (but not really soaking) and I scrunch in a tiny bit of KCCC. When my hair dries, I have a ton of spirals and ringlets that were nonexistent the previous day. Sure, there's a little bit of frizz but my curls come alive.

Perhaps the dripping water weighs my hair down too much while I wait for it to dry, so the curls don't spring up as much as they can?

I feel like there's an experiment to be performed for my next wash.
