In a Panic! Biosilk Rock Hard Gel! DISCONTINUED?!
I went to Walgreens over lunch [to ahem, seek out some of this Paul Mitchell moisture spray, which they didn't have) and Biosilk Rock Hard Gel was on sale for $6--CLEARANCE !
There weren't any bottles left.
Does this mean it's....GULP....going away?

Good news...I think that is highly unlikely. They just changed their packaging not too long ago and the RHG got a facelift too.
Since technically Walgreens Biosilk products would be diverted, I think it's much more likely their supplier is having trouble providing or sales at Walgreens or even that specific Walgreens weren't good enough for them to continue carrying it.
I'd get concerned if I saw Trade Secret for it on clearance but not Walgreens.

They still had plenty of it at my Ulta the last time I was there which wasn't that long ago and I just checked the Biosilk website and it's still listed, so hopefully it's not being discontinued. Ulta is also where I got the Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Moisture Mist.

It was recently repackaged and reformulated, so they may be clearancing out the old ones. I glanced at the ingredients, and the new one still looks CG. The only possibly bad thing is the protein was higher on the ingredient list.

WHEW! My goodness! I might have to ban Walgreens for giving me a scare like that !
Summer is right around the corner and I'm going to need my BRHG.
Re ULTA . There's one just far enough away to be inconvenient and yet just close enough to call out my name. And Mr. C was practically right there on Saturday! Zooming by it on the interstate at probably 75 mph! In spite of my explicit instructions AND a coupon!
He'll never hear the end of it

Yes, the BRHG has been reformulated and has a new package. Everywhere I've looked the old formula is on sale and the new formula has taken its place. Some places that usually carry it don't carry it at all anymore.
The first few ingredients of the new formula are the same but the rest are totally different. The new gel is less... jelly-like? It's smoother (like pudding), if that makes sense, rather than sticky like grape jelly, or something. I find that it doesn't give quite as much crunch or hold as the old formula. (Must be the more prominent protein. My hair doesn't do proteins.)
I, personally, don't like the new gel, and am heartbroken because BRHG was a holy grail product for me.

Oh, great. I feel like I should try out the new formula just to see if I need to run out and start stocking up on the old one.

lauraloo, have you tried Back To Nature Rosemary Mint Clean Gel? It's sold in CurlMart and nearly identical to the old Biosilk RHG.

Does the B2B have the same hold as BRHG?
I swear, BRHG is the only gel I've found (and I have tried & tossed more than I can count) that holds for me.

Didn't someone already say the new ingredients are different? I knew the packaging was. There was a thread on this before.
Has anyone caught site of the new ones since then? I didn't see any confirmation on the ingredients yet
ETA: Oops sorry Bailey I just now saw your reply.
I can't find back to nature on curlmart either. I did see it online though

OH NO. I guess I'm going to have to spend a small fortune at Ulta today buying up the last of their old bottles...

NO, no, no, that's just not right! Why do they mess with success, weren't the curlies buying enough of this product? I sure have been doing my best to do my share. I'm almost out, I'm going to have to go by CVS later today, my fingers are crossed that they have a bottle or two!

Here's the new Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee formula:
Water, PVP, Acrylates/Steareth-20 Itaconate Copolymer, Propylene Glycol, Hydrolyzed Silk, Panthenol, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Triethanolamine, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, parfum, hexylcinnamic aldehyde, benzyl benzoate, linalool, gamma methyl ionone, citronellol, lilial, hydroxy cintronellol, geraniol, eugenol, blue 1, red 33.
The new bottle is the same shape and color, but has a lavender/pinkish swoosh on the front and says "style" in a lavender circle under "BIOSILK".
Here's the old BRHG formula:
Rosewater, PVP, Acrylates/Steareth-20, itaconate copolymer, propylene glycol, diazolidinyl urea, methylparaben, propolyparaben, panthenol, hydrolyzed silk, octyl methoxycinnamate, parfum.
Seems like there's a bunch of new junk in the new gel formula. What is all that stuff?
My hair can definitely tell that there is a more prominent protein in this gel... it makes it have less hold for me. I'm still planning on checking out that Back to Nature gel when my two bottle reserve of the old stuff gets used up. Thanks for the rec, laurabeth33.
