Default how thick are your individual strands?

It's a weird question but reading "Curly Girl" she explains that curly haired girls have less hair than straight haired girls and that individual strands are baby fine on curly hair. I am the exact opposite of that! My individual hair strands are extremely thick. Not only that, but I have alot of hair.

My boyfriend has long curly hair too but he is white so he makes fun of me cause when he puts a strand of his hair next to mine...you cant even see his! but mine is a big fat visible strand!...like 3 or 4 times thicker than his. And for some reason the hairs on the top of my head are the thickest...if I pull one out from underneath its much more fine.

I have honestly never seen anyones strands that are fatter than mine, including my neice who is mixed race, and her dad who is black, and has very coarse strands. I was similiarly confused when I read that in Lorraines book, it made me feel even more like a freak of nature!! Mine remind me of fuse wire, and they feel weird. If I pull my fingers along one, I can almost hear a clicky crackley sound as I pass the wiggly bits!!!

Glad I'm not alone!

Mine are all over the board...and I, too, was surprised to read that curly hair is fine. Mine is SOOO not fine. When I think of "fine"..I think of very light-weight, straight hair..but I guess I shouldn't stereotype it that way.

Some of my strands are thin...but there are some that...I swear...feel like dental floss and you can see the kinks/flat side in it. So weird! But I am far from having "thin" hair....my hair, as a whole...is thick...I can't even wear barrettes and those clips people wear in their hair..it is THAT thick.

I have very very thick hair and I have both thin and thick strands. The thick strands are like wire and have a bumpy texture. I have a very hard time finding hair clips to use with my hair. Usually I have them for a couple of days and then they break. I do have fine hairs but they are few and far between.

I have THICK hair (or so I like to think), but I actually fit the mold in the book with the baby fine hairs. If I had thicker hair maybe I'd get better clumping! lol

I have TONS of hair, and it's...um...medium? I have an assortment, all across the spectrum (even a couple "fuse wire" hairs) but I'm guessing it all averages out.

Oh, man, my hair has sent more than its share of giant claw clips flying in pieces across the room. And that's just putting it in, not doing anything weird! Yeah, bottom line is, you can't say all curlies have fine, thin hair, just like you can't say curlies have coarse hair. It's all hair!

Mine is uber-thick and very coarse. I do have some patches of less coarse hair, but it's really thick. The coarsest parts are of course on the canopy!

There's a whole lot of stuff in that book that doesn't make any sense.

I have really fine individual hairs. Used to have a LOT of 'em though. I've lost a lot of that over the past few years though.
I'm glad I can use a clip without it flying out but I wish I could use anything without it sliding out. :P

Oh, I forgot to mention, about a month ago I discovered a few random hairs that were really thick and coarse! Really weird. Kinda like that different texture of gray hairs but a little scalier feeling. I have no idea what's up with those. *shrug*

It's easy to get confused between fineness/coarseness (the diameter of the individual hairs) and thickness (the amount of hairs on the head). It's entirely possible, even common, to have fine hair that's also thick. Most certainly, not everyone with curly hair has fine hair.

i have an assortment of hair types too, i mean some of the newer hair strands are fine, but the other strands of hair is really thick, like zelda says, fuse wire, its actually quite gross to feel as well, and i find that the thicker/coarser the hair the blacker it is too whereas the finer hair tends to look light brown, but that could just be my lighting!

i thought thickness was the diameter of the strand and coarseness was how porous/wiry or smooth it is. haha! now i'm all confused.
