Questions about LA Sports Gel?

Do you use it alone or use other products with it? Also, how much do you use? Is it your HG product?
I use it in this order: Leave in condish, Styling Cream, Curl Keeper serum, and finally the gel as my last step. When I first started the CG method, I only used leave-in and the Sport gel and it would be a little too crunchy. I have a lot of hair, so I apply a little over a quarter to a half dollar size amount to 2 inch size sections until that section feels a bit slimy like seaweed and repeat all over my head. Then I use more gel when I am scrunching and I put about a little over a half dollar size amount for each side of my head. I have high porosity lightened hair and live in SE Texas where the humidity compares to a sauna hence why I use quite a lot. I'd rather use too much gel than not enough because I get 3-4 days of wear out of it and I can easily scrunch out any crunch I don't want. I buy the larger 26 oz container and that lasts me about 1 1/2 months to 2 months, it's my HG because it's affordable and effective . Win-win for me.

Also edit: forgot to mention I have belly button length hair, another reason I use so much gel.

Thanks Chickitten for sharing your experience and routine with LASG. Have you ever tried it alone with no other products? I am wondering if that might work.
I'm not sure what your hair properties are (like whether it's porous or not; my hair is highly porous) but I tried LALSG without any other products in my hair and while it looked fine initially, once the scrunch went away, there was nothing left to protect my hair from frizz. It also seemed to stay crunchy for longer, and my hair seemed to feel extra coarse.

I did like that my hair didn't feel greasy and wasn't heavy and weighed down. Sorry, I did this a few months ago so I don't remember the details but I just remember I did not love how it looked as the day went on and I concluded that I wasn't going to continue doing it. I tried it for a few days and my hair didn't feel or look extraordinary. Again, keep in mind that my hair is porous.
I use it alone. I have gotten to the point that I feel if I HAVE to use a boatload of products, none of them are any damn good. I spray on some of the Shea moisture shine and hold spray as a light "sealer"; then I apply the LALSG. Works for me.

Hi I've used LALSG for about 3 years or so now. I started using it when I lived in Tx, and needed a good gel that would work with extreme humidity - and it did! I now live in Oklahoma, and the humidity isn't nearly as bad, and in winter it actually snows, so even with different weather it still works great.
I use a leave-in first, then if I want more definition, I'll use a gel that is good at defining but has very little hold, like flax seed gel that I make myself, or I REALLY love Batia & Aleeza Bio Herbal Mineral Sculpting Gel, but its ALL sold out . Then over the top of everything else, I use LALSG. It also works great just by itself along with some leave - in. I first rake everything through, then scrunch my hair with a small ammt of water on my hands, then carefully/gently scrunch with a T-shirt to dry it. Doing my hair that way, I can get 4-5 day hair, if I pineapple at night as well.

I've used the gel alone before, but I won't get much volume if I do. I use Aussie Instant Freeze Mousse underneath it, and that combination together gives me great results. I use about a silver dollar sized amount, or more. Kind of a lot, but once it's really scrunched in I scrunch my hair all over with a t-shirt.

I'd say that combination is a holy grail for me. Although I've never tried another gel, I've been very happy with the results from this one. Maybe after this bottle is done I'll branch out and try another gel, just to see, but I'm thinking I'll come back to LALSG.

What product/s would give this hair gel more hold? Devacurl Set It Free gives my hair some extra hold but not enough.
I've used LA LOOKS Sport Gel for 5 years. I've tried several other types of gels & mousse & curl creams & always come back to LALSG. I conditioner wash w the new Tresemme Botanical (not sure what I think about it yet - loved the old Tresemme Naturals). Use the Tresemme as a leave in, detangle w wide tooth, slightly blot w old t shirt so I'm not dripping all over the bathroom floor, then use probably 5 or 6 quarter size dollops of gel to scrunch into hair by sections. I diffuse to 70% dry & then scrunch out the crunch about an hour later. Recently I've been using Curl Keeper under the gel, but I can't tell much difference & it's expensive so I probably won't keep using it. About once a month I wash with VO5 Kiwi Lime shampoo that I've had for years. I feel like I have frizz & my hair is dry & wonder if the dryness is from the LALSG. My hair is not wonderful, but it's OK & if it looks bad today, I know it will look slightly different tomorrow! It is curly hair...

I've used LA Looks Sport Gel for 10+ years. I use it alone, on soaking wet hair. My hair is long and I use a blob about the size of a large whole walnut.
--I'm located in Western PA.
--I found NC in late 2004, CG since 2-2005, started going grey in late 2005.
--My hair is 3B with some 3A, texture-medium/fine, porosity-normal except for the ends which are porous, elasticity-normal.
--My long time favorite products are Suave & VO5 conditioners, LA Looks Sport Gel, oils, honey, vinegar.

It was largely your endorsement of LALSG that got me to try it, Jeepy! I like that I dont really have to "cocktail" it with anything - although I do use a dab of Deva volumizing foam at the crown. I really like that my hair does not feel "coated" with the gel even when wet. If you use a walnut size blob, I have maybe been using too much! I have been using about a quarter size...I guess I can cut back.

What conditioner do you use?

^ I still use my old faithfuls - Suave coconut and VO5 Kiwi Lime. I use some of the other flavors once in awhile to change things up but these 2 are always in my cupboard.

I have both those too, are you strictly co-washing? or do you use a shampoo?
^ I haven't used shampoo in 10-15 years. Even before I found NC.com I had stopped using shampoo so often, then I gave it up all together.
