I would suggest trying one application of a gentle shampoo and then following the rest of the routine, before going whole hog with sulfate shampoo twice.

I know I can't wash twice, my hair would be dry as a bone. But would someone please help me figure out how to use the gel. I can never get defined, smooth curls with it. Do you put it on dripping wet hair, or towel blotted? I've tried it over different curl creams ( CJ, Souffle, & Boots) and Curl Keeper, but it's still not right. And it's feels a little dry. I must be doing something wrong, Help!

It is somewhat high in proteins. Most people report that it doesn't have the typical protein-dryness problems, but you might be the exception.

I use it over a little Curl Keeper in blotted hair.

I use it in very wet hair over a leave-in, recoil, CK, or some combination of these. I have never had any dryness, and it gives me VERY defined curls. I think the dryness may be a protein sensitivity.

Thanks for the responses. I've been afraid it was a protien sensitivity, but since so many haven't had the problem I was hoping to be able to use it. I'm having a real problem finding the right products for the summer humidity here in the south.

so do you think the extra shampoo helps with the extra protein building up? it does make sense that the 2 shampoos clean the hair completely so the conditioner can do it's business...and the hair in the video does look good....i do love the conditioner...

i know that pixiecurl brushes her hair when wet to distribute product. she said she doesn't get stringy curls either...

i think i'll try this tonight with their gel and my normal shampoo/conditioner routine...hmmmm

ETA:
chelle, i'm eager to see what you think of their products and routine!

I can't tell what kind of brush they're using in the video. What kind does everyone else use (if one at all?)

This is actually how I apply products to my hair... I apply when my hair is soaking wet and rake through. (Haven't tried actually brushing...) Then I blot till just damp with paper towels. My hair responds so much better this way compared to others.

The double-shampoo, I'm not so sure about. I'll have to give that a try.

I'm curious about this as well. I figure it's worth an experiment, but have no idea what kind of brush I would pick up.

Suggestions?

Has their formula by chance changed in the past five years? I remember trying the gel awhile back and thinking it was nothing special. Or maybe you just have to use the whole system. Hmmm...

The formula has not changed as far as I know. Most people here use only the gel, not the whole system. It works for a lot of curlies...but, as we know, nothing works for everyone!

I can pull up the site from this link, but I can't view the video. Anyone else have trouble? I'd really like to watch it. All I get is a gray screen in the center and little thingy at the bottom that moves from the left to the right, as if the video is playing, but I can't see the video.

I must see this - I'm a B & A junkie!

I have B&A's conditioner and their gel is truly my HG of gels. The conditioner is OK. It does give my hair that very slippery feeling, it really seems to smooth the hair shaft to smooth out any frizzies.

As for the rest of the routine, I shampoo only once, condition, then I use a cheapie plastic paddle brush to detangle upside down. I rake through my B&A gel and diffuse upside down. If I blot with a towel, my hair frizzes up later in the day.

Isn't anyone else curious as to why they didn't mention how the hair was dried? Did they diffuse? Did they air dry? Did they use heat lamps? To me that video was only half the technique. A lot can happen to make or break the style after blotting with a towel.

I checked on the drying method too.....they suggest letting your hair air dry. Can't wait until mine gets here

i've actually been doing something similar to their scrunch with a towel and air dry for a long time here. plopping at my length hair makes it all wonky!
i just use an old tshirt instead of the towel, because MF towels and regular bathtowels make my hair frizzy too..

i desperately want to try their shampoo & conditioner, but i don't have the big bucks to buy it....
maybe in the next couple weeks? chelle...keep me posted!

I tried this method this am with Deva loo-poo as my shampoo. I washed twice, boy did the bubbles feel good I used jessicurl aloe as condish and left it in for 60 seconds. I usually comb it through but today I just finger combed. I rinsed, brushed and raked in two palmfulls of B&A gel then scrunched with my curlese towel. I difused on low (can't stand having wet hair and it really helps with volume) and I definatly have more curl and volume, especially at the roots. My ends are a little fuzzy and I have some frizz - maybe not enough gel or the protein? I also need a cut so that could be the problem. I've never had such good results with B&A gel. I'll probably try the method with other products to see if It is the product or the method. Oh FYI I am a 3A with BSL hair when wet. This is WAY better than plopping for me, much more curl at the root and the ends, especially in back! Yea for a good hair day

I shouldn't have read this thread on Tuesday, but I did. I went online and ordered the whole sha-bang! It arrived here at my office and hour ago. I so want to rush home right now and do my hair. I just opened them up and smelled them - the shampoo smells very shampoo-y. The conditioner is pretty decent smelling, but the gel smells yummy.

I'll report on my findings tomorrow. I haven't found anything yet that totally floats my boat (thought Milkshake was a goody, but then I had an allergic reaction to it). It would be SO nice to find something that works. Sigh - hoping these don't end being used on my kids instead of me. Crap, I gotta buy a brush.
