Anyone use the B&A method of washing/application/styling

I never bought the whole "don't ever break up your curls" thing. To me that just sounded like you were creating dreadlocks or something. Today I brushed my hair before putting gel in, and I was still able to get the curl back when I scrunched in gel.

I guess it wouldn't be too drying if I only used the shampoo once a week or so. As it is, I'm shampooing maybe once or twice a month, and I'm probably using a harsher shampoo than the B&A.

I can see brushing through the conditioner while it's in your hair, but not after you've rinsed it out already and nothing in your hair. That just doesn't groove with me at all because I would have to have the condish in mine to help the brush glide through if nothing else. Then I would rinse, then apply the gel. But brushing my hair while it's naked without condish is like fingernails on a chalkboard for me. I have actually tried brushing through my conditioner about 2-3 times, and I did it with a Denman D-4 from Sally's (my hair is a b*tch to brush through and it actually pulled out the entire bristle-cushion section of the brush several times ). I did notice more clumping, but I also noticed my curls weren't as spirally.

I combed my hair when the conditioner was in to get rid of most of the tangles then rinsed, brushed & gelled. I did diffuse - it gives me more body for my fine 3A hair and I hate going out in the cold with wet hair (yeah, it's still cold here). If you brushed your hair when it was full of tangles and wet wouldn't you break off some of it? Isn't that why you're not supposed to brush when wet? I feel guilty every time I do - must be something my mom told me when I was a kid
Dang it now I want all three products again.

I did try the brushing before putting in gel and my hair didn't lose curl and it clumped really really well and it cut out that frizz I get from the hairs not being with their group when the gel is put on.

Grecian it might be a conspiracy I say you go with what works.
Speaking of brushing and spirally hair, doesn't Jennyfurrens still brush hers? hers still curls beautifully

I think the brushing, with no product, no conditioner, and after out of the shower, breaks everything up through the underside of your hair as well to give it more volume. Usually when I've just scrunched in product, I can end up with really great formed curls on the outside of my hair, but the underneath sections were kind of left to do their own thing. Brushing while upside down breaks it all up, so when you scrunch the gel in, it can all group back together again.

I'm still really wanting to try the products b/c I'm thinking that if they're gung ho on shampooing twice, the products must be really good for making hair healthy. If it dried it out, nobody would be using them.

I forgot to address the bald spot, I totally have that. I have some that go the opposite way too. Without shampoo that is, with shampoo its much better but I still have to arrange hair and break up big curls and waves over my crown.

I have soft water here so I think some of my conditioner gets left in because I heard no tugging or snapping when I brushed. I did detangle with a comb in the shower with conditioner in though.

I don't have the B&A stuff yet sooooooo I low poo'd, conditioned with B2b peach pom new formula since it has more slip and rinsed well , brushed my hair upside down and then added aveda flax seed gel (it's similar consistency to the B&A gel) and I scrunched well to get water out and then blotted just a little with a towel and diffused part way. I'll air dry for a bit then finish diffusing and scrunch out the crunch.
I wanted to say though that my hair is like babywavy suggested, broken up from the larger clumps so I have more volume. I still have spirals and curls. So far it looks real good but of course it's rainy today and it's not dry yet.

Now to let my bank account recover from all my bpal purchases so I can get the whole B&A system to try it out. Oh oh I forgot to say did ya'll notice the cone in there is peg? I think that one might be water soluble. NO matter since the shampoo has sulfates but it's pertinent to the breathing of my hair all day to get moisture.

Iīve been using the B&A gel and conditioner for almost 3 years. I still like them very much.

I donīt shampoo, I comb the conditioner in the shower (I use different conditioners not only B&A).
Out of the shower I scrunch the hair with my hands to remove excess water, then apply the gel to it and scrunch with the towel very, very little, and then I brush.

That way I get better clumped curls and some spirals.

i brush mine after i rake through my leave in conditioner. it seems to help it reclump. if i don't brush after finger raking, my curls are very stringy. it does exactly what someone else said, it helps get all those stray hairs bunched up with some friends so they can all play nicely together.
3A Once again on the quest for BSL healthy curly hair....
I have to say I"m loving this wash twice condition brush then gel thing!
I'll have to try brushing after the gel goes in tomorrow, that will distribute it better and the gel is real hair lubricating so that should be fine.

I have good volume, spirals, clumping and my hair is nice and shiny still.

Now to invest in the B&A and try it with their products!

See, my hair is just so ridiculously tangly that I wouldn't be able to get a brush through it without conditioner in it. Heck, it's hard enough to get one through WITH conditioner in with all that extra slip. So you guys are really brushing with no conditioner in at all?

My hair was pretty well lubricated from my rinse out. I have that soft water so things don't rinse out fully unless I work super hard at it.
I did brush with nothing in my hair though. My hair is pretty spirally now that the day has gone and my hair was exposed to the humidity today. I have some where I don't normally have. My hair is shorter than yours, especially in the layers that are growing out so maybe that helps.

I bet brushing while there is conditioner in would work as long as you don't tangle in the rinsing.

MH, your hair is looking absolutely fab!

So since it was past time to wash my hair last night, I decided I would go ahead and try this again, but this time brushing through the product. I'm not courageous enough to brush through my hair naked without any conditioner, so I brushed with condish in, then rinsed, then added my stylers, then brushed.

Anyway, I really needed a DT, so after washing twice with Low-Poo (I'm not going any stronger than that cleanser-wise), then left on Jessicurl WDT for an hour under the mhc, added some cold water just to give more slip for brushing, and brushed upside down. This was NOT easy because I literally have huge areas of hair that just won't budge for a brush. It took me 15 minutes to be able to completely brush through my hair, that was with the Denman D5 (the clear bristles, black handle, red cushion). Then I rinsed completely, gently scrunched out some excess water, and added a dime of Recoil and about 3-4 palmfuls of B&A. Brushed it through *fingers on chalkboard*, then scrunched with absorbent paper towels. I didn't diffuse at all and just air-dried.
I could definitely see, even while wet, that I had a lot more volume, and many of my curls were still very spirally, some not, some very tight and springy, some skinny, some super chunky. It was a little after midnight before it dried and by then it was time for bed, so I put it up in a pineapple. When I took it down this morning, I still had the volume, but my hair was much too fluffy/poofy for my liking. I had lost a lot of definition, especially at the ends of my hair. So while it seemed that it might make for good first day hair, so far it doesn't seem like this process can last me sleeping on it and won't give me second day hair. But I'll try it again, preferable on a morning when I have the rest of the day to judge how it lasts, instead of having to go almost straight to bed.

Thanks lush! It's not as lovely or as long as yours but the length is sure helping the curls out!

PIneapple hurts my head with the hairs going the wrong way. I have smushed on the sides as usual today but the back of my hair is still spirally. I really need to figure out second day hair, it would be much easier on my hair.

I'll watch for that second experiment of yours lush. Good luck with it!

I don't have all the B&A products, either, but I have to say that my hair is loving being shampooed twice. I did it today with NG Aloe & Lavender low poo. I don't have a brush, but I used a shower detangler comb; the teeth are very close together so it seemed to work pretty well. I used the Aveda Flax Seed gel instead of the B&A and today is the curliest my hair has EVER been! Looks like I cut off 2 inches it curled up so much. First time I've used the Aveda gel, too -- I LOVE this stuff!

Thanks msg and hockey!
msg. that aveda is nice isn't it? It's lighter hodl than AW but it sure makes my hair shiny and curl up really nice.
I didn't have any B&A right now either and I had to borrow my SO's brush because I haven't owned one in a while. People kept saying to brush but I really thought it would pull out curl.

I chickened out and just conditioned today and did the other steps. If I regret it I'll just low poo tomorrow and continue on with the experiment.

Anyone doing this with all the B&A ingredients still?

YES, the Aveda gel is great. I've put off using it because I was a little leery of it after I didn't have such great results with the B&A gel. I don't get quite the volume that I do with AW, but still pretty good. I'm definitely A LOT curlier and shinier than with the AW. I'm gonna have to find me a brush and see how that works. I'm also going to try the B&A gel again and see if I have better luck with it using this method. I think plopping is helping me have better results, too. I'm surprised since my hair isn't all that long yet and still kind of short on top, but it seems to work for me. I think I'm going to put off buying the B&A poo & condish for right now since I have so much other stuff to use up. Wonder if not using all of their products makes that much of a difference?
