Longshot--Anybody know Ana's (@ Devachan) routine?

Well, I'm getting annoyed with this routine. I think I actually had a worse hair day today. I rinsed out all the One C in the shower and applied too big handfuls of Arc Angell. I knew my hair wouldn't look good because my hair literally felt like it was made out of plastic while it was wet, it freaked me out! I posted a picture of my hair when it dried in my Winter/Spring 2007 album. I'm sure that picture will be there for a limited time. This is one of the worst hair days I've had in a LONG time. As much as I love Ana's hair, I'm giving up on this routine. It was a reminder in why I don't use cones anymore.
I wish I could figure out how to avoid overconditioning! There is just such a fine line with my hair as it sounds like yours iwantcurlyhair...I ended up doing a low poo today and my hair turned out great and nice and curly...

Hmm, so you think it's just overconditioning? I thought about that too...
You might be right. When I use Arc Angel, it's always a hit or miss. I either have bouncy shiny spiral curls or I have fluffy undefined curls. Maybe it is just that conditioning of a gel. Okay, I'll use a low-poo and then try it again. Do you think I should use the One C in the shower next time? Thanks for your help hockeymomof3.
Yeah, the overconditioning actually crossed my mind as well. I was afraid that's what happened to my hair since it was looking rather limp yet poofy and undefined. I'm fine if I rinse all my One C out, but I think the combo of leaving One C in plus AA is too much for mine. I'm going to use a different gel next time yet use One C as a rinse out and see what happens. I've always used One C so I can't see why it would change on me now. But I've never used AA consistently like I have for the past 2 weeks because frankly I never liked the results I got with it before. Off to look at IWCH's pics...

eta: IWHC your hair is looking fabulous!! What did you use in that March pic? I was thinking of something else, that perhaps it's the length of our hair that doesn't work well with AA, meaning it's not got enough hold? But I do find that no matter what gel I use, it just doesn't hold up for my hair the way it did when it wasn't as long.

I think for me it works better if I stay away from the One C altogether. It leaves me with coated and fluffy curls everytime I use it. Last weekend I actually strayed from it because I was out of town and only used some V05 SKR and a tiny bit of drugstore gel(whatever my DH brought along) and I had nicer curls than I've been having since using the One C. Ana's routine might not be working for me but you two lovely ladies are helping me figure out my summer routine. (which I appreciate )
I'm still going to check in to see how you girls are liking the routine. Thanks for wishing me good hair days hockeymom! I'm wishing the same for both of you too!

ETA: Lush, I just saw what you wrote now. I think your right about the Arc Angell not having enough hold with our length, but I'm not sure. When I used to use it last summer, I remember it making my hair smooth and tangle free, but it didn't do that this time. I think I'm going to try it one more time after washing with low poo and see how that goes. That March picture was my hair with only Too Shea left in. I was following my old routine which worked prefectly for me all winter. I don't think I had a bad hair day all winter in fact. Hmm, maybe I should go back to that routine only modify it a little because it's more humid now and the heat isn't blasting so I don't need as much moisture. During the winter, the flax seed gel would make my hair curlier, clumpier and shinier, but I didn't always use it because of the shrinkage lol. I should probably just use it regularly now that it's more humid out though. Thanks for the compliment!
Guano, but after seeing your pictures, banjo, it's a toss up whether you're my hair idol or Ana is. I love those Devacare One C pictures!

Keep it simple-those sound like words of wisdom to me. I can't believe your hair is waist length now! That's some fast growing hair, I think the last time I looked at your pictures it was around bsl(which is pretty much my current hair length when wet). Your hair just gets more and more beautiful. You've always been about a year ahead of me in taking care of your curls, and now you're at least a year ahead of me in growing your hair out too. You have been and still are an inspiration to me banjo. A couple of questions for you(I know, this is such a long guano).. Can you really go without gel even in the summer? I mean I know you're an active woman too. Also, do you have any specific advice for those of us that are growing our hair out to about your length(or Ana's)? I have never had long curly hair since I was a kid so I am really just learning as I go here. My biggest issue has been with tangles and then experiencing lots of shedding when I try to detangle my hair.
I liked that part about we must be doing something right. Thanks and I totally agree that lush and hockeymom have beautiful curls!!(they both have to know how much I adore their hair by now though. :P )

WOW, Banjo your hair is stunning! I cannot believe how long it is!! Like iwantcurlyhair said, you are also my hair idol...I tend to look at your pics a lot for some long hair inspiration!

Iwantcurlyhair -- your hair is absolutely gorgeous!! Yours is getting long as well...I hope one day mine will look long..it shrinks up so much. It's bsl when wet and shrinks up to just below my shoulders. Maybe the GF condish may work better, maybe it's not AS moisturizing as One C and won't overcondition so much? I have used GF before (I actually have about all their different types of conditioners on hand) and might try that also.

Just wanted to also tell Lush how I always enjoy your posts and looking at your gorgeous hair pics

You all are also my hair idols and inspiration!

Banjo, your new pictures are gorgeous! You and hockeymom both have the incredible kind of hair that looks weightless and just shrinks right up. It's really amazing actually! That will especially be a great quality for growing out since you'll still have great curls at longer lengths. Hairdressers have always commented on how extrememly heavy my hair is when it's wet. So for now I like that I can easily use the weight of my hair and no gel to keep my hair from shrinking up very much. But the weight makes me wonder if I'll still have curls when my hair gets longer. Thanks for sharing what you do for the tangles. I detangle my hair with conditioner and honey in it too. Maybe the cold water rinse will help though. My hair tangles easily when it's dry though. I'm thinking I should wear my hair in protected styles more often. Do you usually wear your hair up or down? I've tried the GF leave-in conditioners. They are a lot like One C to me. They will make my hair smooth and moisturized for the first few days but then the cones make my curls look undefined and poofy. Your hair looks as gorgeous as ever with those products though! And good for you for finding something that works so well at such an inexpensive price! I think my version of "keep it simple" is going to be using Jessicurl conditioners since those are the only conditioners that work for me in the long run. I'll probably switch to Aloeba for the summer. Good thing Jessicurl sells those suckers in gallons. All 4 of us have very different hair, but it's nice to find others who share the same goal of wanting long healthy hair. Especially when the other heads of hair are all breathtakingly gorgeous and are kind of enough to put up with all my pestering questions.
You only trim your hair once a year huh. Lucky you, I wish I could wait that long. The ends of my hair are still thick and I don't have many(if any) split ends but I get more tangles and the ends get dry if I don't trim for a while. I have gone 6 months since my last cut and I've been getting my hair trimmed every 6 months but I'm trying to wait until my hair looks longer than bsl dry before I trim again. I feel like my hair is stuck at the end of an inbetween phase and trimming now will only cause me frustration. So I'm trying to last as long as possible before I trim but I have this awful urge to pick up scissors all the time! I really like your haircut by the way. I love the way those pretty curls of yours taper at the end.

Hockeymom- I can tell a huge difference in the length of your hair from your first album to your Spring album!! Since we see our hair everyday it never seems like our hair is growing to ourselves but I definitely can see the extra length in your hair. I can never see the extra length in my own hair so I appreciate you saying that it looks longer! Waaaaaa I want hair that curls up like yours!
This might be a stupid question but what's the hair challenge? Lady---I see the countdown for it on your signature.

ended at the beginning of the month. My countdown is
for a new one that ends next year. The challenge is
no haircutting except for a minor trim once a year.
There is a thread in the transitioning board about this

thanks!! i wish i had the thick hair that you cannot see thru from the back! the weight of your hair is good- i love that heavy hair look-really thick and healthy. i usually wear my hair down except when hiking. it is hot now on the trails and i generally put it in some kind of braided pineapple which looks dorky as hell but preserves the curls and keeps it from getting knotted up. ok--here is some advice about growing your hair long.
DITCH THE SCISSORS!!! DO NOT CUT YOUR HAIR!!!
this is how to let it grow. when i was going to a haircutter pre devachan i'd go every 3-4 months and he would tsk tsk over my dead ends and cut an inch or so off and my hair never got longer. of course he never told me not to shampoo or comb or brush my hair!! i send him hair pics now and then and he is amazed by the change in my hair but does not want to learn the deva methods--he is a masterstylist and knows everything i realize that my best hair days occur when my hair is damp and i pineapple overnight. it gets really sproingy curls that way. if i plop soaking wet or bone dry it is not as good.
for some reason nothing builds up too badly on me, or maybe i just dont notice it. i oil my hair every night before swimming too.
thanks again for the kind words. even if i am old i can try to have young fun hair. we'll see how long i can get away with it

Well, I completely strayed from the product routine today and used Low-Poo to wash with, Kenra MB to condition with, and CJ Coffe-coco creme under B&A gel to style with. Results? Great hair. Best hair I've had in at least a week or so. Maybe I was just over-conditioned and needed to Low-Poo, or maybe I just didn't need a leave-in or a conditioning gel. Whatever it was, I was needful of the break in the blah hair syndrome.

I used low poo today too!! I also used one c and angell....I think I am going to try to stick with this routine as long as I can since it seems to be working for me so far and use low poo when I need to "clarify" so to speak!

So glad you had a good hair today!! Good hair days are the best

Me three. Today was the first decent hair day that I've had since I first tried the routine.
I used a clarifying shampoo and started over again with the products I was using before and even though my hair is still a little fluffly, it's much better.
Hooray for escaping the blah hair syndrome!
You know what, it could have been the fact that I used Low-Poo. I know my hair likes Kenra MB, but it's always loved One C, so maybe I just don't need to leave it in , especially when combined with AA.

Ana told me that she wets her hair every morning (she goes to the gym) and uses Devacurl OC only to style. I am not sure, but I am almost certain that she uses No Poo to wash. I can ask her if you want. I have to go back for highlights soon.

Ana still uses the same routine that she told me back in December. No poo once in a while, OC and sometimes AnGell. Ezy said that she likes to keep it very basic and simple. Sometimes she just uses OC and leaves most of it in.
