help! Hair is making me mad

It's got no definition whatsoever. Whatever I do, there is just fuzz and frizz. It's shrinking a ton, which is making it impossible for me to deal with it. grr I just don't know what to do. I just got it trimmed, so that shouldn't be the issue. No products seem to work. Im using phytodefrisant, garnier soft curl cream, suave biobasics condish and garnier leave in and nothing works. I have a bunch of frizzies on the top of my head too that are coarser than the rest of my hair and it's driving me nuts. My hair also feels really rough and dry, and I dont know what to do. Can anyone recommend me any drugstore products that will help to fight shrinkage and provide moisture? Gels, conditioners, leave-ins anything. I need heavy products if possible. thankss

This tells me that you most likely have product build-up, either protein or silicones.

I recommend that you get a silicone-free and protein-free shampoo that has sulfates to remove the build-up. Then do a dilute apple cider vinegar rinse (2 tablespoons in 32 oz of water). Then do a moisturizing deep conditioning treatment (low or no protein, and silicone-free). You can buy Tigi Bed Head Moisture Maniac at Target, CVS, etc.

You can then rinse out most of the Moisture Maniac and use it as a leave-in.

You can then use Sebastian's Wet Gel for a gel. It joined my product rotation about 2 months ago, and I love it. I get similar results to my Kinky-Curly curling custard, but I can buy it locally. I have found it to be a good spiral elongator.

You can still use products that contain silicones and protein, but be aware that they might build-up on your hair, and plan to do a clarifying treatment when this occurs. Good Luck!

hi kdcriegh! Thanks for responding. I thought I must've had build up as well. I'm usually a cger, but recently I have used a lot of cones. But, I don't think it's build up because my hair was acting up before the cones and I've also shampooed a few times since then. And while I like the biobasics condish, it's problem time to switch it up and I need new styling products. I've tried the KCCC a long time ago, probably like a year, and didn't like it because it made my hair flat, but my hair is so much more curlier that I'm desperate now to loosen the curls up a bit. How well does the Sebastian Wet Gel work? What are its attributes?

Hi!

The Sebastians Wet Gel (the official name is "Sebastian Wet Sleek Hold Liquid Gel") is marketed as giving you that wet caught-in-the-rain look. I've not gotten that look (nor do I want that look), but it does weigh down my spirals enough to elongate them. It also leaves a nice sheen. It's very easy to distibute. Here are the ingredients:

Water (Aqua), Polyquaternium 11, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Ceteareth 20, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Steapyrium Chloride, Citric Acid, Fragrance (Parfum), Benzyl Salicylate, Limonene, Potassium Sorbate, Butylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Propylparaben

For me it works about as well as the KCCC if I use it over a leave-in.
