Default Can anyone recommend a curl-friendly salon on Long Island?

I see Carlos at Devchan presently, but I'd rather skip the long commute to get a haircut. Thanks!

Default I have yet to find one...

I haven't been to Carlos in about 5 years and thinking about going back. I've been at home a year now and (2 kids), so it's hard to go into the city. I've tried a few salons in the past year and no WOW factor. I haven't gone back to any of them. I was going to make an appt for deva this week.

Honestly, it's worth the treck. I strayed from Carols and went to Arrojo Studio (awesome) salon as well. I really want a dry cut though.

I'll be interested to see the replies!

Exactly. It's a long day away from the kids when I go to see Carlos. If I don't get any responses, I will bite the bullet and make an appointment.

Btw, which salons did you try out here?

Thanks!

I'm seeing Steven at Zeba in Huntingon May 2. I've heard good things about him and he does the Deva cut, so we'll see. As soon as I go, I'll let you know!

Huntington is a 20 minute drive for me, so that would be great, if he works out for you. How did you find him? I've been looking for Devachan-trained stylists out here, but have had no luck. I could have sworn there was some kind of list here.

You recommended Karin Lyn to me about 2 years ago. I have yet to go there because I grew out the highlights. I might try again this summer. I want to get my haircut first.

Thanks!

Hi, I am not sure what part of LI you are from. I recently had my hair cut at Defusion Salon in Rockville Centre. They are a Devachan trained salon and they gave me a very good Deva-cut. If you go there make sure you ask for the Deva cut.

Good Luck!

I meant May 5, duh! However, LIme here had either used him or a friend of hers used him and LOVED the cut. Sooooo....I decided to take the plunge. I'm tired of schleping to the city for a haircut, and I really wasn't too happy with it the last time. It took my hair weeks to recover from all the product they put in it.

I actually did go to Salon Zeba a couple of weeks ago..the place was very nice and Stephen is very nice, however i am a wavy and the haircut didn't suit me..I think it is more difficult to cut wavy hair, according to the CG book cause you cant see where the S or C is to cut..I am going to let my hair grown another 7 months and probable go back to Ana at Devachan..

Lime and Medusa,

I also went to Stephen a while back. I did not like the haircut either. I am a wavy as well. The Devachan haircutting method does not work for me.

About two months ago I went to Arlene at Nubest Salon in Manhasset. The haircut wasn't bad. She sold me haircare products that didn't work for me though. My hair isn't overally spectacular now, so I haven't rushed out to make another appointment. I think my problem is the hard water where I live and I can't seem to find a styling product that I absolutely love.

I was wondering if anyone has been to Hair Machine in Rockville Centre, I have heard that Julie is good?

Please let me know,

Scorpio Curls.

Scorpio; so you never actually found a place on Long Island that you were happy with.??.cause this is my problem as well..I have been doing the CG thing for 3 or 4 years...it is the best thing to happen to my hair in terms of conditioning washing and no pooing, HOWEVER, every time i do get it cut, its just not right..I have been to Devachan a couple of times and its been better than anywhere else, not spectacular ..I think someone needs to devise a method to cut wavy hair...

Lime,

No unfortunately I have not. The Devachan haircutting method doesn't work for my hair type.

I think you are right, we need to find someone to invent a method to cut wavy hair. What works for curly hair does not work for wavy hair.

Perhaps we have to try other haircutters in New York City who might be more up on the latest trends.

Has anyone been to Insitu in New York City? I saw reviews on a stylist named Kim.

I'm far from being a wavy...I'm a 3C. But I really want to find someone out here. Luckily, being a curly, I don't need to get a haircut too often. So maybe, just maybe, I ought to quit complaining and go into the city.

Thanks. The hormones are doing a number on my hair, so it's not looking so hot to me these days.

I just made an appt with Carlos and I cannot get in on a Saturday until June 2nd.

So, CGG, I will wait for your feedback on May 5th (you can PM some before and afters too). If you are happy with this guy in Huntington, I might just change my appt.

Medussa,

I'm a 3c. I need a cut only like twice a year. So, hopefully, this'll work. I know it's not a big deal to go to Devachan 2 times a year, but I'm trying to find a less expensive option. I'll let you know how it goes!

I went to Steve when he was at another salon, he is AWESOME!! He just moved to Zeba recently. Have not been there yet, but will when I'm due for another cut.
