Default Need help with Devacurl Set It Free

I am having some serious problems using Set It Free. Here's what I'm doing.

I am spraying it on my hands and applying to dry hair 2nd day.

I am smoothing it over my curls to encourage stray frizz to reclump in the morning and then scrunching softly.

It is helping increase the lasting power of my curls so they don't wimp out into waves. However, I have a LOT of frizz, despite only using a little bit. I tried using a little more on one side for comparison, and it looks even worse.

Suggestions? How are the fans of this using it? Could the temps being in the 80s be part of the problem? It was in the low 60s this morning, and the frizz was pretty intense then.

I think Set it Free is only supposed to be used to get the stiffness out of your hair from the gel. It's to "break the cast" so to speak.

Mister Right is the hair refresher that is supposed to re-activate the gel.

I have no luck with it on dry hair. I end up with limp curls, dull looking hair and frizz. The only way it works for me is to spray it (2-3 sprays)into soaking wet hair, smooth it in and then use ArcAngell or Angell over it. I then spritz a small amount over clips on the top and diffuse dry. I do spray a small amt. into my hands, rub them together well and scrunch out the crunch afterward.

So if it's to scrunch out the crunch, what does it do that's any different from just scrunching out the crunch with my hands or a paper towel?

I had better luck if I watered it down a bit in my hand. I sprayed 2-3 pumps on my wet hand and rubbed my hands together. I didn't find it to be anything spectacular though, and the smell absolutely kills me!

I find that it adds extra sealant to my curls as opposed to scrunching alone. Extra humidity blocker.

Careful, though--you've seen it's very sticky stuff. If not careful, it will create frizz. I use 3 pumps in my hands and scrunch and then more pumps if needed to finish the job but pump as soon as it starts to feel like it's pulling out the curl.

I was told by Carlos at Devachan that it is supposed to add additional moisture and help seal the ends.

I find that SIF causes major frizz on my hair when it's dry too.

The only way I use it is a few spritzes on soaking wet hair.

I don't think it's that great to tell you the truth--at least I have not had much luck with it!

I use SIF to soften, moisturize and fluff dry 2nd day hair. 4-6 sprays in my hand mixed with a dab of Blended Cutie Soft Curls & Swirls. Put it in a scuncie for 2 minutes, unbind and fluff. Without the Soft Curls & Swirls it does tend to be frizzier.

I think it forms and softens the curls a lot better than just plain scrunching. I get all these soft curls that come out of nowhere when I use it! But I agree, that I think it has to be used on crunchy hair - if the hair's too dry it does seem to cause frizz.

On the first day I use it to scrunch out the crunch (5-6 sprays in my hands and smoothed over and scrunched in). On 2nd day hair I spray my hair all over with Mister Right first, or just by wetting my hands with water and lightly dabbing it all over my hair, then I spray Mister Right or water in my hands first before spraying 4-5 squirts of SIF, rubbing that between my palms and smoothing/scrunching lightly all over.

I have trouble with SIF, but for different reasons. I can usually use it as a midday frizz-fighter or to create 2d day hair without washing by using a few sprays upside down and a few sprays right side up. Generally this controls my frizz and gives me good curl formation. My problem is that it is too heavy for my hair and after an hour my hair is hanging (in spirals) flat against my head and feels greasy. I was hoping they could create an SIF light or something. I can't use Mister Right or Ouidad BB to "refresh" my curls, because they contain propylene glycol, which my hair hates. Does anyone have another alternative?
